well, my brothers PC is slowly packing up and after being quoted £200 to fix an 8 year old PC, we said no thanks

He knows not alot about specs, I know more than him but still not huge amounts.
He wants a PC mainly for the internet also for some general work, and as he states wants a decent PC that will last a long time, so he doesnt have to keep replacing Budget wise, he is not really fussed but I reckon for £4-£500 can get a ideal pc

Im mainly unsure on the Graphics cards I must admit, I dnt follow them, I have seen some PC's with 8gb Ram, 1TB HD etc which all look good, but then I guess the graphics card is what helps them be so cheap as opposed to a different model with a better card, he does like watching movies/youtube on it too

something like this as an example http://www.ebuyer.com/282...ops-pc-7873-0289

e buyer and saveonlaptops do some good deals

i saw an i3 recently for £ 300 from ebuyer
you would need windows 7 64 bit ( system builder version disc )
to go with it but it seemed like a good deal to me

as a properly trained tech i build my own as i can choose the components

here is a example of what i am talking a about on a self built machine i can use a reliable power supply unit ( psu)from corsair
£50 compared to a £10 one that is in ebuyer and pc worlds computers

but at the end of the day either can pack up with reliability comes cost given the choice i prefer cheaper gear my amd 550 black edition processor in one of my builds has ran wicked for 3 or 4 years and is still going strong £ 50 cpu from ebuyer an intel equvalent at the time would have been double the price.......

It doesn't sound like he needs a particularly powerful PC. Most come with Windows 7 nowadays, whatever graphics adapter they have will probably be suitable for watching movies and youtube stuff. You don't need a 1TB disk unless he's anticipating storing loads of data and its an easy upgrade if that need comes later. Similarly 8Gb RAM is probably OTT. 4Gb will be more than enough, just make sure the machine can take more if that need arises.
You always pay a premium for the latest processors, go for one below the top spec and save money. He won't notice the difference in the use you have mentioned.
Look for a decent size monitor if he's going to be watching movies.

wow, my apologies for posting a link, to get some feedback

anyway, we are not sure whats wrong it it to be honest, the mouse and keyboard would only work in Bios, we tried soo many solutions as I read online and none worked, took to a PC shops who quoted £70, then rang and said wold cost near £200, to be honest the PC was starting to get slow anyway, so figured would be best buy another

Thanks for all the helpful replies guys

out current pc, is only 2gb ram and I just figured perhaps buying a 6-8gb would be more beneficial, perhaps a 1TB hdd is too much for him, as he doesnt download much at all

credit were credit is due amd are fuming about the release of this chip

amd have been king of the cpu in desktops for years
purely as they do the same at a third less cost

unless you build a raid arrangement ( multiple hard drives acting as one )
intel win on that point due to their superior chipset

Karl - love the idea, but I am too clueless and too busy to be building Pc's, even though it would be cheaper :)
