haha I must admit my husband found this thread interesting!!
TakeThiss what do you think about the fujitsu AH531? it is i3 2310 processor?Beginning our debt free journey.. mostly for our baby boy!!:A0 -
To be fair to santer, the above is just your opinion.Sorry, but you simply aren't making any sense.
Currys claim, disingenuously in my opinion, that an item that is currently worth £380 or less and that is selling for £380, has £200 off. You think that it is worth advertising on this forum?
Is that the position that you are defending?
I am of the opinion that this website is dedicated to saving consumers money, not diverting them to marketing 'tricks'.
So I don't have a problem with illustrating the pitfalls of the Currys marketing ploy. If you have a problem with it, then perhaps you should apply for a job with the Dixons Group and refrain from posting links to their 'bargains' here.
As for the "cheapest option"...what is your suggestion? Something from Currys?
Pretty much every retailer in the world uses the same "marketing tricks" even your chosen Dabs will.
One persons bargain is another persons junk, especially with the very personal choices that are made with technology, take the PC vs MAC eternal rivalry for instance.
As for the Currys website, there is a laptop on there that is value for money if one of your desired specifications is a "sandybridge" processor and the upgraded graphics card that comes with it. The Asus A53E with the i3 2310M processor at £349.99 seems to be cheaper than any other 2nd gen intel I can find.

What is 'just my opinion'? That the laptop was never worth £580 within the time period mentioned? If fact, it was not even worth the £380 for which they were selling it at the time of santer's post.
So it is your opinion that it was worth £580 four months ago?
Please.....
Interesting that they have now moved the price to £350.
As to the ASUS to which you have linked, that is another fish altogether. No stupid claims of hundreds of pounds off, just an up to date laptop at a realistic price.0 -
Currys say that the laptop was on sale at £579.99 between 23/06/11 - 20/07/11 (which is all that is legally required), so it is not my opinion but fact thast currys have reduced it by £200.What is 'just my opinion'? That the laptop was never worth £580 within the time period mentioned?

As to whether it was worth £579.99 is a matter of opinion, many Dell fanboys will say it was but very many other people will say it was not. Brand loyalty is a powerfull marketing tool.
The bottom line is that, as I said earlier the wants and supposed needs of the individual, when it comes to technology, varies person to person and I just think you were a little harsh on santer. All they were doing was pointing out that there was a sale on at currys, which is an expected and much appreciated thing on this website (the pointing out, not the currys sale:)), people can then choose to go there and buy or not.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -

Sorry, but this is a lot of writing for nothing. The laptops in Currys 'sale' were overpriced and not worthy of consideration on this money saving website.
That is the top and bottom of it. This is a money saving website. The whole point of it is to 'weed out' the marketing tricks, not to promote them.0 -
You have valid points regarding the laptops, but to berate someone in the way in which you did to santer, for offering a diiferent viewpoint is counter productive to the purpose of the op to reasearch their preferred purchase.Sorry, but this is a lot of writing for nothing. Personally I think you have totally missed the point of websites such as this but I doubt we will ever agree as you don't seem to understand the difference between percieved value and actual value in anything other than pound notes.
If you wish to weed out the marketing tricks, then I would suggest that you will have to abstain from the market, full stop.
You offer good sound advice that the op should take on board TakeThis, just don't think your opinion is the definative one.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -

?? All I have stated definitively is that the Currys sale was just a trick of marketing and that none of the laptops offered offered the best value for money relative to the market.
I asked santer to present a laptop from the website that represented good value for money and he could not.
So, that should have been the end of it. But now it has been revived by a grumpy old man(your words) with too much time on his hands.
So, perhaps I should leave you to it.

Are you joking?
No wonder you didn't have the nerve to produce a link.
Edit: Have looked now and as expected, it's a load of rubbish.Nit-picking? That is a glaring error.
You should be suitably embarrassed for posting without checking. Is there a good value laptop there or not?
It's not all about you. .
Grumpy old man I may be;) but you seem to have gotten out of your cot the wrong side this morning!:p:)?? All I have stated definitively is that the Currys sale was just a trick of marketing and that none of the laptops offered offered the best value for money relative to the market.

Actually, it was all posted 'tongue-in-cheek'. Unfortunately, it does not always come through that way in writing.
It is the British way to 'take the Michael' out of their friends.
Normally santer makes very useful posts, so that one was totally out of character...that is why he got the 'ribbing'.
He should not be taking offence at all.
If I 'dropped the ball' or made a similar fumble, I too would expect a ribbing from my team mates.0
