I got my "Your approved! (subject to formalities)" email about 26 hours after I requested to open the account (at 7 o'clock tonight, strangely)

It was only a standard account however, as I'm not interested in the overdraft or the mandatory requirement to deposit £800 after the 3rd month.
  • They must be busy with account openings as when I opened mine in February I had an email within 10 minutes saying you've been accepted!

can 2 standing orders of £1 each be set up to send to two different accounts? would this be acceptable? it says on the website "under am i eligble?

"I'm a new customer - simply open a new standard current account, Current Account Plus, Privilege or Privilege Premier current account and request a full switch (including a minimum of 2 Direct Debits and/or standing orders) from another provider using our dedicated switching service before the incentive is withdrawn"

it can't be that simple can it? the £800 / month i have no problem with....

That's what I've done (as an existing customer) - set them up on one account then filled in the online switching form a few minutes later.

Wait until I've had the money!

One thing I found odd about opening a Co-op account in branch was the inability to be given the account details straight away. Approved, ID not required, never even signed anything thinking about it (nor given any T&Cs), yet they are do so many additional checks that 'account details can change'.

    All very odd.

Doesn't need to be salary. You can transfer money in from other external sources.

    Terms and conditions state

    1. Your account
1.1 To open an account you must be a UK resident 16 or over and to have an account you must receive a regular payment (i.e. wage, salary, pension) which you must pay into your account.

in regards to standing orders. i've set 2 up today, but the earliest first payment dates are the 24th october.

can i still apply, as the SO is active, just no first payment made yet?
would prefer to apply asap incase the incentive closes quickly.

Ive already received an accepted, "subject to .." within a couple of hours but they seem to be automatically generated, so I shant hold my breath.

Hmm - the salary/pension requirement above, I hadnt noticed. So we cant pull a fast one by moving money around then :o I wonder if some of us will be disappointed.
