They do seem dear at Tesco, shame they don;t do value bags.

I get the value ones from Morrisons. Got some today and they were £1.49 for about 5/6. Hth, I know that markets are probably cheaper. Asda do the value ones, £1.48 for 700g. I just had a quick look - looks a huge bag on piccie! Probably same as Morrisons though.

Tesco do do value bags of peppers, but they are still not that cheap. About £1.30 for a bag of 5-6.

And when you get them cheap, remember you can chop and freeze them too.

We love red/orange (hate green..tooo bitter) peppers in this house, to cook with and for salads. I always try to get them from the market where they will usually do 50p each or 3 for a £1. today the red peppers were ENOURMOUS (reminded me of French markets) and they were 60p each :j but coz I bought 3 I paid £1.50. Definitely use a market stall if you want good value for money.

Our local Tesco seems to have stopped doing the value bags. I've tried the frozen but have found several bits of tough stalk in among the peppers-.

The local greengrocers had bags of three for 75p today so bought some and froze them.

Have you tried growing some? I know you will have to wait ages but it will work out cheaper. I'm thinking of growing some myself - they are normally 69p, but our local supermarket has HUGE ones at the moment for 73p.
Thanks for reminding me. I got a kit for christmas that I need to start off in March. It says best grown indoors or in a geenhouse. So in the porch I think.

  • Hi,

I too love peppers however I am often disgusted at the priceof them, for example last night I paid £1.80 for one red pepper and one yellow pepper;they were not even very big or fresh. I think that this is extortionate andwonder how these people sleep at night.

With regards to frozen peppers that are recommended by “Kethry”,I would not advise going down this route, as for the most part they taste likeplastic and are extremely watery. Secondly “Kethry” I do not know why you arebanging on about trolleys and bags, I think you may be in the wrong forum. Ipersonally do not care about your bag for life, if I did I would have searchedfor a bag for life forum and not PEPPERS!

Also, “guineapig”; if you have nothing to offer why are youcommenting. I do not go into Tesco and ask an assistant where the peppercornsare and then once shown, state that I don’t actually want any. Yet you then goon to talk about what you have peppers with?! This is a price comparison and nota recipe forum. I do not go to Asda and tell the sales assistant about the timeI worked in a shop one summer and how this one evening some guy bought someapples. And you are another one of those people talking about your trolley and whatnot….

But thank you to all who have recommended Lidl; a pack of 3peppers for 39p sounds fantastic!!! If I cannot find these I will be mostunimpressed with this website and all those who have recommended Lidl, as myclosest Lidl is 6 country miles and with my arthritis in my legs it will talkme around 8.5 hours to walk there. Wish my look all you money saving experts
