Winter Fuel Alllowance

  • i am shocked that people want to stop the winter fuel allowance for working people over 60/ Not all working people over 60 are rolling in money and have, i might add paid enough into the system for years.Myself and my husband although still working are struggling to heat our home in the winter. I have worked since i was 15 and have paid my fair share to this community we live in.Yes i agree stop it for wealthy people, but where do you draw the line ? There are people ripping the benefits system off, left right and centre dont have a go at people who have been subsidising others for over 40 yrs ! I do not begrudge people who genuinely cannot work but dont have a go at those of us who have contributed our fair whack !
  • It's all very well the over 60s getting help but what about the genuinely sick and vulnerable.

I receive Incap and low rate care/mobility DLA. I get 88% housing and council tax benefits thus making me liable for the remainder. My gas and electric has gone up (I pay by DD) by £22, this is despite me trying to get a better deal elsewhere. That £22 per month extra means I will have to not have a mobile phone (vital as it is my only phoneline) or even not attend hospital appointments. Before anyone says anyhing about me having a computer, my mum pays for my internet dongle (8.99) every month (am grateful for this as it means can keep in touch with Dad in Afghanistan). I use the internet to do some of my food shopping as well because it is painful to carry things too far. I do not get a bus pass as on low rate of DLA. I cannot work due to health and am going to be in this situation until the government decides to cut my benefits despite being in greater need care wise than some pensioners.

Where is the help for me? Nowhere! If you are lucky enough to get WFA or even Cold Weather payments then think twice before spending on anything other than your bill. It should go on your bills not on your Christmas gifts to someone. I know that sounds harsh but I have known some to buy presents with it. I am ex-homeless too so I need warmth. I may just come and have Christmas dinner with one of you lol!

Oh and one more thing. I have put into the system. I am on strong painkillers (fentanyl) daily, if anyone knows an employer who will hire me then please let me know. I'd love to be able to have more than £486 a month in my bank account.
Never judge a book by it's cover!
I may look well but I am very poorly, I am fed up with being judged because I cannot work. Grrr!!
I am not looking at them, they just aint real!

If you're on long term IB and low rate DLA care/mobility you should have around £580 pcm plus what you get for rent and CT.

I'm more than happy for someone with a disability to receive this money but don't try to make out that it's less than it actually is.
  • Why stop at the elderly or disabled, we all should get a winter payment as some workers struggle to get by also, or do they not feel the cold?
  • @ my above post . I know it's not viable but everyone wants a share of the pie, it has to stop somewhere.

Workers are at home less than people who aren't working and will therefore have lower bills.

only them on jsa loose out on this as people on esa on the whole have more income than jsa'ers, as do pensioners and I do not decry any of them getting help but where do we stop.............people on wtc's, people on tax credits, child benefit, or lazy people like me that work and feel the cold when I come home? (and yes I have cb, no ctc, overpayement from years back which should be payed back as I recieved it. I still feel the cold especially on a cold winters morning waiting on the bus to get to work.

Should be for the over 65's and that's it. Hopefully we'll all get to over 65 some day and get a share of the pie.

The help for you is the IB, and DLA.
