Well that is interesting to know. So they are starting the annual payment within the next few weeks.
What I could never work out is why is the giro not in the name of the fuel supplier?

We put ours in a savings account for the grandchildren. It will come in handy for them when they get older. There must be close to £2000 by now.
It's not needed for the fuel as we pay a fixed amount each month every month so we never have a big bill to pay.
It does seem to be a waste of money if I am honest about it. There must be many others that are under 60 that could make better use of the money, but I'm not complaining. I actually told that to my MP last year and he just laughed at us for being silly I suppose.
  • Just an update.............had a letter today saying it will be paid, hopefully, in the next 3 weeks, will let those interested know when it arrives. :)

Sadly not. We have two children on DLA and can't get a penny. My Mum who gets two good pensions plus works and receives a good wage gets this money every year because she is over 60. It usually goes on another pair of leather shoes or some more unnecessary items :(

Do both members of a household have to be over 60 to get wfa? I am over 60 but hubby is not - I didn't get wfa last year as I was one of those who had to wait six extra months for the pension to start.

No, only one of you needs to be eligible.

You need to claim it - it doesn't just turn up.

  • My mother is fairly sure she didn't claim it, it just started to turn up a few years ago (she's 63). She and my Dad, who is 61, also get free prescriptions, free travel in London, etc. And they are very well-off indeed, it's a very silly benefit.
