I think that must be it - my mother got the state pension when she turned 60....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Just had a text from my bank say that my mums winter fuel allowance has been paid in0

I agree with an earlier poster that it should be means tested. A friend of mine is gets a very generous pension, has ample savings, a nice house which is paid for and he also has a house in South Africa which he goes to for the winter months, he is still getting the WFA !!!!!!. This is by no means an isolated case as i know a few people who are well enough off not to need it but get it anyway.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

it is the same with child benefit though which is a lot more than WFA0

That should be means tested as well.0 -
Apparently the savings made by means testing universal benefits don't balance out with the additional costs in doing so.0

there is far too many 'benefits'. Why not stop all benefits for working people and have a variable tax rate depending on income. This would reduce the number of DWP offices and therefore save money.Life is too short to drink bad wine!0

Child benefit is going from next year for higher rate taxpayers, though?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
