Breach of confidentiality by employer

Hi is there anything that can be done about this legally.
My ex employer has been going round telling people that I have been sacked when it was no buisness of these people.(not new employers)
Ex clients have been coming upto me in the street and telling me about it. When I left the organization I was assured this would'nt happen and I also told them I wouldnt speak about them to anyone elce.
I have consulted a solicitor and am waiting a response but Im really upset. They have breached their agreement to me and their own confidentiality policy.

Was it a written agreement?0

Not like a drawn up agreement, but it was said at my appeal.
They have an organizational confidentiality agreement and they have breached this.I thought publicly funded organiztions were not allowed to pass confidential information on without consent?0 -
Are you sure that it was a formal organisational comment rather than an employee (or two) speaking out of turn?Whatever0

The employees are bound by the same confidentiality policy as the organization as a whole.0

I fail to see the fact you've been sacked is confidential. You are required to tell DWP, you are required to put it down as a reason for the job ending on a CV.0

It is not a requirment to put down why the job ended actually, not a legal one anyway.
I think you MAY beable to do something legally but I am not 100% sure. Slander maybe defimation of character? Was you dismissed for a fair reason or an unfair one0 -
Fair reason.
I had to declare it to the Jobcentre but my employment records shouldnt be shared with the organizations clients thats the point i'm making. They have breached my confidentiality. What I write on application forms is my decision.
There are laws about processing information
If a hospital leaked your records how would you feel its the same thing.0 -
What will you put on your CV and TBH they will be asked if you require a reference.0

No I was just asking coz I was wondering if you could go for unfair dismissal as well as breach of confidentiality.
I think you can do something by law for this, just wait to see what your solicter says. I was dismissed from my last job (unfairly, but not enough service to throw unfair dismissal claim apparently). I just write "unfair dismissal" on my reason for leaving on application forms. Got two jobs no probs0 -
