If prospective employers were more understanding....no-one would need to lie would they?

    QUOTE]

I understand why people may think they need to lie on their CV. I just wondered what you wouldn't lie about in general. I wondered where you draw the lying line.

A man's true character is not in what he does but in what he would do if he knew he would never be found out!

I would lie if it were a life or death situation.

Ooh how nasty can you get!

Dont you think that people deserve a 2nd chance?

Cos that's basically what I am saying!

Of course people deserve a second chance but they shouldn't lie to get it. Honesty is always the best policy and a good employer will recognise this.

Read your post again. Then read mine. I have no problem with people having a second chance in fact I think most people need one in life one way or the other. I do have a problem with people committing a criminal act and then blaming the victim. That is why your post was nasty not mine.

Just because someone lies on their CV, doesnt mean they lie about other things!
Its just a case of doing what we have to do to survive!

But how would anyone know that ?
Is it not more sensible to tell the truth and not have to worry about being found out ?
You'll get far more respect by telling the truth. My son was dismissed from a job 2 years ago for Gross Misconduct. When he applied for the job he has now, he told them about what had happened. They asked for all the notes relating to the dismissal and then offered him the job. Do you think he would have got the job if he'd lied ? He probably would, and then promptly been sacked when they got references.

I am not being nasty...not once have I been nasty on here.
Trying to help someone out, thats all.

Well that is a good intention but the following sentence:

Is, in my opinion, particularly unhelfpul as it attempts to justify lying to employers to obtain a job. Since this in many cases is fraud you are, perhaps unintentionally, justifying and even possibly encouraging, a criminal act. For me those who justify crimes by blaming the victim are nasty. I'm not sure from your subsequent posts that you understood that.

So if you told them you had previously held a job that went pear-shaped, they probably wouldn't give you the job, would they?

    It's do or die...

Better than losing your home and everything, because you lost out on a job cos you told the truth!

Who cares what you were like in a previous job....its what your gonna be like that matters!

I think you'll find that most employers these days are more than understanding, as long as you are honest. My sons case proves this. Any employer who dismisses you as a potential employee without looking into what you're saying (truth or lie) isn't worth working for in my opinion.

Of course it matters what you were like in your previous job, people who lie very rarely get on in life, it usually comes back to bite them on the backside. Think about recent news articles relating to Politicians and their expenses and Footballers and their extra marital affairs, they all thought they could get away with it didn't they ? Very few people manage to make a career out of lying.
