Will a 3G sim card work on a 2G phone?

I have a SE W800i and am getting SE K800i.


i have just upgraded and am going to sell the new phone.

    i dont think it will work as 3g services use UTMS and 2g use GSM/GPRS

    (btw nice phones!)

    My 3g sim (from my 3 K800i) didn't work in my OH's unlocked W800i
    Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

    they might if they are from the same network. When it arrives give it a go!

    with orange at least its fine, it just doesnt reach the 3g speed
    most 3g phones have an option to just use on purely 2g

    they are both on O2.

    Well i just hope it does otherwise i will have to keep the K8oo and buy myself an MP3 player!!

    no, they don't work....

    it's really annoying when your 3g phone goes for repair, cos you need to use your old (very crap) 3g phone while it's off.......

    now i begin to see why the networks are swapping people on to 3G sim cards then.

    Stops them getting upgrades and selling it on ebay!!

    are you talking about 3g the technology or 3 the network?

    networks apart from 3 shouldnt have a problem with it, i know orange and t-mobile dont, o2 never tried but cant imagine a problem

    they do work as i am on o2 and had to send my k800i (3g) back as there was a fault so i had to revert back to using my k750i (2g) and the sim worked fine. you will just not have the ability to use 3g features thats all
