Jobcentres send you 90 miles for job?

But how do they work it out though? I know I could get a lot further in an hour driving, than I could in the bus. The dammed thing goes all round the houses and takes about 45 mins just to get to town. In the car I'd be three quarters of the way to Middlesbrough!!
Would the criteria not be better in milage rather than time? Sort of a 30 mile radius type thing? Of course if people wanted to go further they could do, but nobody should be forced to!
I was told if you didnt have own transport then you wouldnt be asked to travel up to an hour but it was possibly less (45 minutes comes to mind).
I agree no 1 should be forced to go further than whats in the agreement they signed unless of course they want to go further.0 -

its upto 60 minutes for the first 13 weeks and upto 90 minutes after that whether you have your own transport or not. of course not having your own transport affects how far you can travel.I was told if you didnt have own transport then you wouldnt be asked to travel up to an hour but it was possibly less (45 minutes comes to mind).

They cannot stop your money dude. A guy I know well has told them to get fcuked many times when asked to go to intraining or new deal or an interview of some sort, and he has never had his money stopped. Sure, they threaten him repeatedly and say he MUST attend, but he never does. Still the money goes into his account.
It's all threats. It is against your human rights.0 -
No, they cant0

i've done a 2 hour commute before on £6 p/h job, living rurally.... i'm not sure what the fuss is about. i'm signing on again now and would do that again to get work.0

You are not sure what all the fuss is about skater_kat because perhaps you live a sheltered life, have lower overheads and are simply content to stay home when you are not working?
E.g. have you ever taken a Ryanair flight?
Would you say it is a fair world that expects you to work for just £6 per hour but which does not protect you from having to give up a whole hour's wages just to pay a £6 admin fee for no good reason when you book your next flight? Or is Ryanair for rich people who don't know what that fuss is about?
Would you say that it is fair that you have to give up one or two whole hour's wages simply to pay for the fuel you use if you commute two hours in a car, or do you have a lower cost commute than that?
A £6 per hour wage is a dilatory sum to pay anyone for any service in the UK in 2011 but as long as there are people who will take it, then there will be people who pay it.0 -

Are Jobcentres seriously being told to offer clients jobs 45 miles there and 45 back in day.
Tot up the cost of travel, rent/mortgage and deduct that from minimum wage!
And if you don't go for interview, at your own expense from JSA - you get your JSA stopped anyway.
Are you sure? I worked for the Jobcentre up until June this year and it was 90 minutes travel for work, not 90 miles. I'd double check just to be on the safe side if I were you.0 -
Tons of people on low pay are commuting more than two hours a day to get to work. Think about immigrant workers, international students, etc.
The thing are even worst with illegal, non-documented immigrants ...
I think the point here is that some people have a better alternative for not wanting to take a job if the travel time more than an hour some do not.skater_kat wrote: »i've done a 2 hour commute before on £6 p/h job, living rurally.... i'm not sure what the fuss is about. i'm signing on again now and would do that again to get work.0
