Jobcentres send you 90 miles for job?

Never declare to the jobcentre that you own a car as you will be expected to use it and travel 45 miles.
I could travel 45 miles from here and it would cost me about £15 on the train. However, I would refuse to even pay that as it simply isn't worth it. £6.08 times 7.5 hours is £45.60 a day less the tax and ni would leave me with £40 less the £15 rail ticket leaves me with £25 a day or £125 a week less the benefits I would lose of £67.50 (JSA) and £91 (HB) and £16.50 (CTB) per week plus the WTC's of £52 I would get makes me £2 per week better off. No thanks...... Not for being out of the house for 50 hours. I am not working for 4 pence an hour I make more on the internet.
I can't get anywhere near 45 miles on the bus in 90 minutes. The furthest I can get is 15 miles. As the ticket is only £2.25 (when purchased as a 4 weekly ticket) then I can't really refuse it.
It's called pride... why on earth do you expect people to pay for you to not work???0 -
I agree with you up to a point FBaby, but there are some NMW jobs that will have no hope of progression "up the ladder" i.e cleaners, shop workers etc.
It's simply not true that cleaners or shop workers have "no hope of progression"....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Don't be silly - you cut back to make sure that the household expenditure didn't exceed 75%!!!
Does everybody think it so wrong to work and take home less than what they would get on benefit?
There is only so much cutting back one can do.
I do not think it wrong to work for less money than benefits per se - in fact I've done it more than once myself and would do so again if need be!
The OP is talking about people being expected to travel well over an hour each way, at great expense, and still take home less.
Would I do that(?) - no, I don't think I would and I wouldn't blame anyone else for refusing.
That's not to say I don't think people should move to find work if they are able - that is common sense!0 -

Because that's how this benefit system works. If it was profitable working then I'd do it. I am looking forward to universal credit with a 65% taper rate as I know I would make a profit by working for the minimum wage. It's called pride... why on earth do you expect people to pay for you to not work???:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

It's not lying. I have a car. It's SORN'ed. I can't afford to run it on benefits and I can't afford to run it on minimum wage. If a job came up at a good rate I can tax and insure it and drive to and from work if I wanted to.So you would lie to avoid having to take the job.
Where is the determination to do whatever, wherever to get off benefits.
In 5 pages of this thread I have seen every excuse possible as to why people think that they should not work where they are told to go.
God help us if there is another World War!!:footie:

Not going to be popular with many pensioners that idea...[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -

It isn't just about how long it takes though. It takes my partner around 30 mins to travel to work by bus but that isn't a problem. What is a problem is that it costs of the bus to get there and back again. What is more important, money in your pocket for little effort or try to make something of yourself for less overall money.
90 mins travel is too far my backside!!!
When you are on NMW or not much more the cost of travel is a big thing! You can not afford to pay out 1/4 of your wage in travel if you are on NMW or just over. It wouldn't be possible to pay for basic bills and food.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy
