It's the Signal Quality you wan to pay more attention to really.

It may be that your aerial needs updating if you get picture break-ups etc.

Okay, so I've been using freeview for a couple of hours now I've noticed some problems. At the moment my non-BBC channels have a 40-odd % signal strength and no picture or sound, but BBC channels have come back with higher strength although the picture is breaking up. This changes every so often. Sometimes all the channels work, sometimes only BBC, sometimes only non-BBC. Mostly when they work, they have no interference although BBC channels are breaking up at the moment.

Is this likely to be an aerial problem?

It's on the roof. Do you think a signal booster might help since the aerial is on the roof and the digibox is 3 floors below in the basement?

Your area isn't in the middle of switching to digital is it?

    How old is the aerial?

Could be any number of things, but check the ones you can get to easily first.
Check quality of lead and connections between socket and TV.
If the cabling is external then visibly check it has not aged with a rough/crumbly exterior.
Check socket inst very old with a loose connection between lead and face or wobbly worn solder inside.

Mast head amplifier at the aerial end could well help seeing as you seem to be almost there strength/quality wise.
