Setting up freeview box

Hey, I've bought a freeview box for a basic television but I'm having some unexpected problems getting it to work. I plugged the one side of the cable into the aerial and the other into the box, then connected the television to the box with a scart lead. I figured all I would have to do is then tune the channels but when I turned on the TV and went onto channel AV the menu page (I assume) is broken up and I all I can see is bands of colour moving down the screen. This is before I get a chance to tune any channels.

Where have I gone wrong here? :o

  • The AV channel is unlikely to be for a scart connection. AV is normally the red white and yellow plugs and sockets

So I'm on the wrong channel? How do I get to the scart connection channel?

I reckon you needs EXT. 1

There might be a "Source" button with a pic of a TV and an arrow pointing into the centre of the square. Could also be named AV too... depends on your remote control.

Anyway, press that until you get EXT. 1 (presumably that's where the digi box is plugged into), it may need multiple presses to get to the desired channel.

Select the correct input from the TV remote for the SCART socket you have plugged into. It should then display the Install menu (once the box is switched on). Then set up using the remote for the box.
At present it's displaying the TV tuner's own output, which of course is nil because it's no longer connected to the aerial.

The only thing is a button called O/AV. When I press it once it takes me a to AV1 which has the weirdly scrunched up blue moving screen, and AV2 which is just blank. When I switch off the box AV1 goes back to being blank too.

As you can tell, I'm not too great with these things. :p

Double check that your SCART is fully home in the socket at each end-they're hit and miss at the best of times.

Tried it with another scart cable that I borrowed from the other tv and it worked! Thanks to those who posted. :)

    I'm back (sorry). :p

So I've tuned it and I have all the channels I expected to for my region. The signal is 56% for all channels and they are picture and sound perfect, except for the BBC channels which have 43% signal and no picture or sound. What's going on here?

Are your figures signal strength or signal quality?
What sort of aerial are you using?
What transmitter region-is your area currently half way through digital switchover?

Nevermind I've just gone down to check (television is two flights down from my computer so I've been running up and down lol) and the BBC channels have suddenly appeared despite the signal strength still being 43%.

    Thanks again.
