have I done something wrong with the install of my stove?

  • Yep - thought it would! Have you smoke or flame tested it around the door and glass to make sure it's not pulling air in where it shouldn't?

From the pics you posted it appears that the top baffle plate is intact - if you can't put your hand straight into the flue pipe then the plate is there - so I wouldn't be worrying too much about missing bits. No problem changing it, but now you've got the door seals etc fettled, give a try with some decent fuel and see how it goes before hoiking it out.

ok, we have inherrited a stove its a chinese multi fuel thing. I have had the chimney swept, liner fitted, register plate in, cowl on, new glass and rope in the stove. I then couldn't wait to light it.

burnt some wood, then added some coal, even bought a thermometer for the flue. I can hardly tell its on. I wanted to be sat in my pants and socks and to be honest I can hardly feel any heat even when I am sat next to it.

there are a couple of gaps at either end of the register plate which haven't been filled yet but they are about 2cm each side.

I am looking at pulling the stove out and replacing it with something else. its suppose to be 5kw, but if it is what to i need to feel the effects? the room is about 8x4x2.2m with a bay at one end and patio doors at the other.

please any suggestions to fix this before I spend some more money

Thats a pretty big living room. I am guessing its an older property. What is your insulation like? Is your home draughty? We have pretty much exactly the same size room and its fitted with an 11Kw woodburning beast. I could probably do cremations at a push. Get it fed and keep it fed. Try also getting a small electric fan blowing into the fireplace. It will get the warm air moving round the room which will do wonders.

Your stove will be a separate charge. But so make sure you have followed the regs before getting them to come out save having to do things again and getting charged again

It wont be if you add the works to the notification for the new works. Dont pay the council more than you have to. They get enough of your cash for s0d all as it is!

just a quickie. I have found that there were ropes missing from the bottom door too. but how do you keep the rope in situ? I have used some fire cement, but I'm not sure if thats the best option.

It usually attached with a type of superglue. You may find it on ebay.

Not a recommendation just a sample of what you require.
