With modern bulbs electric lighting is cheap- approx 100 hours for one unit of electricity.

think i need to invent an energy saving gas light then:rotfl:
  • Because it's really inconvenient having to stand on a chair to light the lamp instead of having a wall switch next to the door.

There were attempts at remote-controlled gas lighting but they weren't successful.

    It's also smelly and sooty.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

You'd do much better with a gas powered Wii, Xbox and large screen Plasma TV

That said i'm considering Paraffin lamps to go with my paraffin heating

Gas lighting was, in many ways, far better than electric: supposedly the Victorian gas mantles produced excellent lighting.

However, it was less safe during the time it was superseded by electric. It also caused deposits - hence Victorian decor - as it derived from coal residue.

But electricity is, really, very cheap despite increases, especially with new lighting and tvs.
