Isn't this the company with the ugliest most revolting looking man in the whole wide world on their adverts?
I wouldn't insure with them as I want to puke every time I see the ugly spectacle."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

also check their policy book... you will see they stop that years NCB
http://support.swiftcover.com/car-insurance-help/windscreen-cover/
if its repairable then its no affected if it has to be replaced then you dont get another years NCB..
I had my windscreen replaced two years ago with Swiftcover and they still gave me that years NCB. Unless they've changed their policy wording since then (unlikely), it fits with my general experience of them which was a fairly disorganised company which could do a hell of a lot better with their customer service.
Would I go back? Yes, but only if they were the cheapest by far for a quote. For the sake of £10-£20 a year, I'd rather go with someone else.0 -
Interesting thread. A friend recommended them after I told him my experience with Masterquote but from the comments it sounds very much like out of the frying pan and into the fire. One good attraction is that every thing is done online (so my friend says) which means that it won't be necessary to call 0845 numbers on the mobile and all of the nonsense that goes with it.
I did get a quote which was close to what I would expect but when the extras are added the price is soon ramped up.
No claims Protection added £20 to the policy but courtesy car, which I can get by without,Personal Accident Plus and Legal Cover ramped it up by a further £100 alone.
Legal Protection: Is there any point in having this. If you have an accident aren't the insurance company required to sort this under the existing policy?
With all of the unsavoury tactics nowadays I am considering going for a bare bones third party, fire and theft. Because they only pay out the market value of the car and not what has been put into it to keep it running. It's not criminal. It's within the rules0 -
I have been with Swift last two years, and didn't need to claim, or deal with them much to be honest.
But this year, their renewal quote came back as £60/month for the same cover as I already had been receiving for £42/month. When I did a quote as a new customer, it came back nearer the £42/month, but certain elements were extras (legal cover, breakdown, courtesy car) that had been included. Adding these in brought it up to £60/month again.
So it looks like they have started charging for stuff they used to include.
Ending up with Esure for £38/month with everything I had, except the breakdown cover, which I can source elsewhere for approx. £30/year.0 -
My son was with them last year and had his windscreen repaired. They told him this was counted as a claim.0

I was with Swiftcover for 2 years. Prior to joining them I had 8 years no claims. When my renewal came through this year (with my premium having gone up by around 50%) they said I had 5 years no claims (despite me not having made a claim ever!) I queried this and asked them to send me back a copy of the original proof of no claims I had sent to them when I joined (as stupidly I hadn't kept proof - I never expected Swiftcover to effectively write off my ncd!). They emailed me back and changed their mind to say I actually had 6 years no claims - having had 4 years when I joined! Which was still wrong! I finally got proof through from Churchill (my previous insurer) that I had 8 years when I joined Swiftcover so actually have 10 years now. However this came through too late for this years policy and I could only say that I had 6 years no claims to my new insurer. Unsurprisingly I have not re-insured with Swiftcover.
Also, after cancelling my policy, I must have had 4 text messages and 3 emails trying to get me to re-quote with them which was just even more annoying.
Swiftcover say that most insurers should accept that 5 years no claims is the maximum that a person can accrue. This is clearly not true!! Axa (of which Swiftcover is part) will give no claims discount to drivers with 8 years or more no claims!!!! It can't be that difficult to just add up the years that a person has not claimed in!
I would not use them again.0 -
@ Pocket_the_lot (sorry I don't know how to quote your post!)
"Legal Protection: Is there any point in having this. If you have an accident aren't the insurance company required to sort this under the existing policy?"
Yes - they are required to sort this out if the accident is your fault and you have complied with the terms of your policy.
Legal Protection is really there for if you need to make a claim involving solicitors (i.e. if you are injured or there is a dispute over fault or for any other reason that solicitors may become involved!!). Your insurers would appoint a solicitor (from their panel of firms) to deal with any claim and pay their costs and also pay costs payable to any third parties (e.g. medical experts, engineers etc involved). Normally the solicitor will be paying the insurer for them to pass your details on to them so the insurer makes money from both your premium and the kick back from the solicitor!!
Legal Protection would also cover you if your solicitors needed to issue court proceedings. If court proceedings are issued then you would be at risk of paying the defendant's costs should the case go against you at court - costs like this can be substantial - so you would be insured for that and it wouldn't come out of your pocket (unless the case was found to be fraudulent). Although, insurers will only back cases where there are good prospects - they probably wouldn't back you where it was potentially 50/50 or if it was obviously your fault but you insisted otherwise.
At this moment in time, if you did need a solicitor to act for you where it wasn't your fault and you didn't have Legal Protection, you could instruct almost any PI solicitor on a No Win No Fee basis (you don't need insurance for this). If proceedings were needed they they can normally get seperate legal cover for you (normally at no cost to you as it would be recovered as part of your legal fees).
However, big changes are coming soon in the world of PI and solicitors so perhaps soon everyone will have Legal Protection on their insurance as it may become very expensive to obtain seperate insurance for a claim after an accident.
At this moment in time its another one of those things that you have to weigh up whether you want it or not. There are good things and bad things about having it.
Hope that helps a bit!0 -

i've heard a few people saying that before, but i got my proof of NCD off them, dated 17th August 2011, and it had 9 years on it. Not sure if they've recently changed the way they do it.0 -

I had a similar thing with them when I was leaving them to join Esure.
When I joined Swift, I had to give prove of my no-claims, which at the time was 9 years.
In my quote with esure, I stated I had 11 years NCD, which they wanted proof of. So went onto the Swift website which stated I had 5 years no claims.
When I queried this with Swift, they said that they only recognised up to 5 years NCD, same as many other insurance companies, but once my policy had expired, they would issue a letter stating my full 11 years NCD.
Esure needed this before my policy expired, so I sent them my NCD proof from my insurer before Swift, which showed 9 years, along with a copy of the email from Swift explaining the 5 years thing, and their intention to send me a letter proving my 11 years.
Everything worked out though, eventually.0 -

This is exactly the same situation I had encountered with my previous insurer. Even though I had 12 years previously they had put me down for 6. They must have asked the previous company because they did not ask me so what this seems to reveal is a bit of a dodge that is being conducted between the companies themselves. I had expressed on the phone out of frustration that the motor insurance industry needs a complete shakeup and a standardisarion of procedures across the board. It's not criminal. It's within the rules0
