To recieve a brand new clean and shiny dustbin simply phone your local council and tell them it is damaged.

The bin lid hinges are most susceptible to damage.

My new bin has arrived and I am now the envy of my neighbours!

Your lucky, here in Llanelli we dont get ANY bins, plus we have to provide our own bin bags (at least in Swansea they get bags). Although I believe in the council area's here in Llanelli they get a blue recycling box - but you dont seem to get one if you own your own property. Shame really.
  • After waiting ages, our council provided us with recycling bins and paper bag. They took the paper bag last week and are supposed to leave another one in it's place, but they didn't.

Our council also charge for taking things away now and we don't get free bin bags. Well, unless you live on a council estate. You get free bin bags and once a month a big truck comes round and everyone puts out their junk - broken fridges, furniture etc and it all gets picked up for free. Oh, and they also get two green bins (glass/bottles/cans) instead of one like we do! considering we pay a lot more council tax than people on the estate (we're classed as living in a 'nice' area so charged more), i really don't think it's right!

Our council don't even offer wheelie bins, not for free anyway and not inland.....on the seafront they have wheelie bins provided for them every 'x' meters and have their rubbish collected every day, this is due to the seafront being the main route along the south coast.

Hello, at our last house we asked for a new bin- and we got it quite quickly. but it genuinely was damaged and had been left in a right state by the last people who lived there (rented house). We now live in a apartment, where we have a wheely bin each but we dont have any recycling bins and no garden/green bin (but thats because we have people come and do the gardening for us within our maintenance fees). so we are expected to take things to a recycling centre, either at the tip or elsewhere that does it.

ours just started weekly collections again after forcing everyone to recycle by introducing the green collection on alternate weeks.
Was a good strategy to get people into the habit of recycling, but horrendous for us with 2 toddlers, dirty nappies.... you get the picture....

I can sympathise, my main bin only gets emptied once a fortnight, and with dirty/wet nappies etc., it s a nightmare...........and........the bin stinks more than it ever did!!!

I wonder if the council will recycle my old broken bin?

I think they do, they can make UPVC window frames and things like that from wheelie bins..... according to the last window salesperson I had to endure!! hehehe xxx

Unfortunately our council (newcastle) has started charging for replacements, and for the removal of things like fridges, mattresses etc. The result is a surge in fly tipping. Hoorah for joined up government...

Its been like that in Bolton for the last 2 years :(

You have to be joking ! my council doesn't supply dustbins. we have to pay £29.99 every year to have a wheelie bin.I think where i live we are the 2nd highest rates ,and get nothing .

the kids round here found their source of entertainment from seting mine and the neighbours bin alight the night before they were emptied.
As mentioned newcastle council have started to charge for replacing the bins. So as they are £25 a time, if it is stolen or damaged by someone you have to phone the police to get a crime number, just some more of the tax payers money to waste.

I've just ordered a replacement bin from my council - for free (old one lid snapped clean off in wind).

Not sure about charging for bulk waste collection (we either take to collection centre or if usable -freecycle). Blue bins for paper and they also do grenn binds for garden refuse but only on certain districts of the area.
