Shiny New Dustbin

Options
To recieve a brand new clean and shiny dustbin simply phone your local council and tell them it is damaged.

The bin lid hinges are most susceptible to damage.

My new bin has arrived and I am now the envy of my neighbours!

  • After the high winds yesterday my wheelie bin's gone on holiday!

Searched the back lane last night to no avail - so a new bin for me!
  • Can I just add, only do this is your bin is actually damaged (and that doesn't include deliberately damaging it yourself). Remember council' don't have money, they just distribute the budget gained from your council tax and the tax payer and when they have to pay out more, costs for all of us rise the following year! :)

Unfortunately our council (newcastle) has started charging for replacements, and for the removal of things like fridges, mattresses etc. The result is a surge in fly tipping. Hoorah for joined up government...

I think that's not on really, Liverpool council has bulky bobs which takes away large household rubbish like that, they also take couches, furniture, white goods and recondition them or reupholster, they have people learning a trade and then they're sold in a Revive shop in town cheaply. In this shop they give a discount for people on benefits.
It's a shame other councils couldn't do something similar.

I agree with welshcakes. Even if they are free its only worth contacting them if you genuinely need a new bin, damaged or stolen. My council actually charge for this if its stolen, unsure about whether they charge for damaged bins. Council tax is high enough as it is is us council tax payers that pay for the bins anyhow
  • there is terrible inconsistency even between neighbouring councils. Mine has fantastic free bulk item removal, black and green wheelie and green recyclye schemes. The next one down (both Welsh) has non of these things. It appalls me that the other doesn't even have a green bag recycling but does have two massive landfill sites that are near to full.

We have no road side recycling collection at all in my area, even though more affluent areas in same town do.
  • ours just started weekly collections again after forcing everyone to recycle by introducing the green collection on alternate weeks.
Was a good strategy to get people into the habit of recycling, but horrendous for us with 2 toddlers, dirty nappies.... you get the picture....

Not all my neighbours have bins. Still a black bag neighbourhood. Took me ten years to get a wheelie bin off the council
We all evolve - get on with it
  • I wonder if the council will recycle my old broken bin?
