I booked tickets with them, for 23rd Dec, 2 weeks ago with my Snr. rail card. I knew? the card was due up in january, and foolishly didn't even check it. Yesterday dh looked at his and realised they were due to expire 2 weeks before we go away. No problem, i thought. They must have come acroos this situation before. Rang this mornig to be informed that i would have to cancel the tickets with a £10 administration fee and rebook at a £15 higher cost for ordinary tickets. (the original ones were £33 )I don't mind the higher cost, Other than that renew
The Snr. rail cards which will be £50 and probley won;t be used again
as i won't be making this journey again in a hurry.
You would think they would have something in place so you could just pay the extra. I am not trying to con them, but that what it seems they do to their passengers.

Never ever buy from third party sites like trainline or raileasy.
Were these advance tickets you bought - I suspect they were - then they come with the restriction that to change them costs a tenner - they all do this no matter who you buy them off of. Its part of the T&Cs of advance purchase tickets so they are not really conning you.
Always advisable to check your railcard before you purchase a ticket i would say is the best thing to come from this."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

They do - extra staff !Someone has to pay for their time to change your tickets, why shouldn't you ?
It certainly isn't a "con"! it is clearly stated in the Ts & Cs.
You should be moaning about all the other charges that the Trainline add to your bill.........................0 -
It would have made no difference who you bought it from - the rules are set centrally, not by the ticketing agent.
Renewing the railcards is the obvious answer - they only have to be valid when the tickets are used, not when they are bought.
And can you be sure you'll never use them again? Life these days is unpredictable.0 -

No, that's strictly against the terms of the deal and could be legally pursued as fraud, I believe.0 -

Mainly because they charge a booking fee, which the train operators don't.0 -

Don't know about the websites, but there was no booking fee applied to my TTL booking on the Android app.0 -
