Storing flour ....

I've been having huge problems with my flour recently (the horrible crawly things:eek:). I've cleaned, bleeched etc etc and am still getting them:(
I've always just kept my flour with a rubber band round the bag and then inside a plastic bag secured with a clip.
Any Lakeland fans around!:D
Has anyone tried the Lock & Lock flour box http://www.lakeland.co.uk/11756/Lock-and-Lock-Flour-Box;jsessionid=BF97138538C6C2D2FDA964B53FE0DB44.app1 - does it work?
They're quite expensive and it seems a lot of money to pay to store flour but a) I can't find a container I've got that will take a whole bag (1.5kg) and b) I've had to throw 5 bags out recently (I know you can still use it, but I just can't bring myself to:o) so ......
Other suggestions also welcome:D Thanks

Thanks Mardy .... unfortunately I'm housebound at the minute (following surgery) and it'll be another 3 months or so before I can drive:( so I need to try to find something from somewhere that delivers.
However, I will pop off to the Home Bar*gains website for a look as they've started delivering:DGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Another one for the Pound shop. I have a retangular one which holds a bag with room to spare for tub of yeast and packet of salt.
These little horribles are very difficult to get rid of, have you tried washing cupboards with neat vinegar?Slimming World at target0 -
Thanks Meg, no I've not tried neat vinegar (just bleech etc) - will give that a bash too (anything to try to get rid of the wee blighters!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I read on this board that freezing your bag of flour when you first get it stops this happening. Need to wrap it well first to stop it getting damp. Hope that helps for the future.0

Thanks MaLarkin - yup, I saw that and have been thinking about it but I'm not sure how well the flour keeps after freezing? (It must surely get damp?). I've unfortunately not got a big enough freezer to keep it in there until I need to use it.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I've never bothered wrapping my flour. And it only needs 24 hours in the freezer, and then you can put it out on the shelf as per normal.
I use bog standard air tight storage things from asda (who deliver) for my flour. Not as cheap as pound shops though...- £2.70

Ahhhh fantastic Squeaky:D
DM did look in our Mr A yesterday but they didn't have any (only a small shop) .... might get an online order next week (they come from the big store in the city so will hopefully be able to get them).
£2.70 is much better than £5.49 at Lake*land (which also has a £4.25 delivery charge:eek:).Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I have this trouble too, damn things
Just a word of warning... l tried storage clip lock lids (they were from matalan l think it's just one for cereals because it has a little flip top lid) and l still use them, l store the flour in them still in its bag. l tried putting fresh and spent matchsticks in because l read on this forum they didn't like sulphur (wasn't sure which way round the sulphur existed and l was taking no chances :rotfl:) that worked for a while but the blighters are back.
I have read they come IN the flour when you buy it as eggs, then hatch out. Freezing the bag for 48 hours when you come home from the shops is supposed to kill them so that's my next plan.....
Happy moneysaving all.0 -
I have never frozen my flour as I've never got space in the freezer
I have always used LocknLocks to store mine in and *touchwood* have never had the bugs.
I buy mine from Debenhams when they have a sale on0
