Storing flour ....

  • There are some great tips on here!

Out of curiosity, would it be acceptable to return the flour to the shop you bought it from (I've read it's likely to be old stock affected as more recent produce is less likely to contains weevils) or would you be laughed out of the shop? Hmmm

Absence is as important as abundance.
  • Hi RFTA, try one of these as I assume your buying in 16kg sacks http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/html/onlineshop/rub/bConvertBin.php
    :)

Not tried it TBH - it's nearly a 20 mile round trip to the supermarket so not going especially to return flour.... and want it out of the house ASAP so not going to store it:eek:

Nope, just normal sized bags - I didn't even know you could get big bags :o. Where do you get them?

I've bought a couple of the lock & lock ones so hopefully will get on OK with these for the flour.

However, thanks for the link as I can think of some great uses for those boxes!:D

    Hiya,

First thing I noticed and more important Home Bargins do delivery :j:j:j:j:j Thank you for mentioning that :D

Now for some sort of an answer. I've never seen these thingys, however someone did mention about crumbs etc. I do keep everything all baking things in a clear plastic box or I put the bag of flour into a food bag at first and seal the top with a peg :D so I wonder if that prevents them in the first place.

Hope the answers help with getting rid of them though.

You can get them from local flour mills or from wholesale retailers like http://www.shortersclub.co.uk/products/24223-allinson-strong-white-bread-flour-16kg.aspx

We get ours from Caudwell's mill in Rowsley as we're local :)http://www.caudwellsmill.co.uk/

Touch wood I only had them once and that was enough I store almost everything in lock 'n'lock boxes they are my extravengance from John Lewis when ever I go there I treat myself to a couple, over the years I have built up quite a store of them.Brilliant and so much easier to find things in the cupboard.
  • I found weevils in my flour about a month ago so I bleached everything and threw away all opened packets. Bought new flour and put it into a lock and lock container - guess what, went to make yorkshire puddings on Tuesdsay and found some weevils in the flour!!!! Arghhhhhhhhh
  • As well as flour bugs I have had a mouse problem and everything is now in Lock and Lock or giant Lakeland tubs (the lakeland own brand L&L style is actually made by the same company)

It is a one off expenditure and in the long run will save money as i will not be throwing anything away again.
