Clear out the cupboard and then get the vacuum cleaner in and suck the little horrors up. Then use vinegar.

I store my flour in preserving jars. I keep them on the kitchen work top so I wanted them to be 'pretty'.

Oh, yes. The horrors will be attracted to any spilt food in your cupboards, so you might need to put all dry foods into boxes. Old ice cream tubs or freezer bags work in a pinch.

i have the lock and lock flour one's. i bought them problerly about 4 or 5 years ago and they are fantastic. yes a bit expensive, but they hold a whole bag of flour, not too bulky and stack very well in my baking cupboard. in fact i store everything in lock and lock, morrisons have the new lock and lock which has turquoise lids, very lush.

i found tho sometime lakeland do free delivery but ebay is fab for lock and lock, generally alot cheaper.

also i find using a little labeller the labels stick really well to the storage tubs and also removed with ease . i love lock and lock , maybe even admit to being a bit addicted, lol.

they are also perfect size for storing porrage oats.

awww thankyou, so many have some into my kitchen and if i've opened the cupboard to get something out , asked for a second look. lol. i've inspired a few to do the same, and then some just think i'm odd, ha ha.
  • Thanks all - I have vacuumed the cupboard (several times now) and will try the neat vinegar.

I tend to keep everything else in glass jars anyway (things like lentils, rice etc etc - sweetner ones are great as they're fairly big) and have had no problems with anything in these .. I just couldn't find anything big enough to take a whole bag of flour!

I did look on e*bay earlier but 2 were around £15 (incl p&p :() so about the same price as the Lake*land ones. Just looked at Deb*enhams out of curiosity (£6 each:eek:) so def need to wait for a sale!

Not got a Mr M's near here but will ask DM to keep an eye out in hers, thanks.

Will get the ones from Mr A just now but will be keeping an eye out from now on, hoping I can pick up some in a sale somewhere

JCR wow, really impressed by your cupboards:) - wish mine looked as tidy as that:o, it looks really smart and probably a lot easier to find things!

awww thankyou RFTA, it very easy to find things, and also i can see at a glance what i'm out of , and need to add to the shopping list. and the kids can help with baking too, as they can see in the recipe what we need and then look in the cupboard and see it straight away, as it labelled really clearly. all my herbs and spices are in the 100ml lock and lock. they were a fab bargain. i bought 20 odd from ebay and the postage was £1 something per pot and the guy charged me £2 postage for the whole lot !wow.

I keep my flour in last years celebrations 'tin' which is actually a large round plastic container. It actually holds about 1.5 bags of flour and is great for both tipping the flout into and scooping it back out agan. The biggest bonus is you get to eat the celebrations first!
  • Tiree thanks for that also - I'll ask DM to keep me a couple of those to store unopened bags in as I've been wondering what to do with these too (DF loves chocs so they often have them)

  • Wilkinson's does them and you can order them for home delivery, or if a friend could pick them up at the shop then it would cost you nothing whether they grab them from the shelves or if you place an order to be collected from the store! HTH

BTW, it sounds like you are talking about flour weevils. I'm afraid those do come in the flour as microscopic eggs, but the freezer trick works by killing the eggs at extreme temperatures. And no, the flour doesn't get damp. Just take the bag out after 24 hours.
:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A
