That advice sounds compleely sound. Prob with Govt sites hat address complex issues it they can be hard to search, lead you round in circles and sometimes one Govt site can seem to contradicts another, perhaps due to tit officialese language used.

Good thing that MSE discussion groups exist then.

thats why they set up businesslink with drop in centres, so you can call them or call into one of their centres for advices, which is better and more legal that reading something on a site made and run by a hosting/domain company without any legal knowledge.

Unfortunately due to the government pulling the funding for BusinessLink, it won't exist in its current extremely useful form as of next month...
    Local Business Link services
The local Business Link advisory services will close on 25 November 2011. Until that time they will continue to offer advice and support - although the service available may vary regionally until it is closed. Much of the local business support information that was previously found on regionally branded Business Link websites can now be found within the national Business Link website directories

Its a real shame as I had a massive amount of help and support when I was setting up my business.

yes these services are being replaced by local authority run enterprise agencies lick nowe in the north east we now have the NBSL (Northumberland Business Service Ltd) is an Enterprise Agency based in Northumberland, operating across the county and the North East of England. which is infact celebrating its 10th anniversary, but they have taken over a majority of the business link offices and staff in Northumberland.

so you take advise from a so called comparison website owned by 1&1 Internet, Inc. rather than trade bodys and government departments

Texranger, if you have the official text from a the various tradebodies (see what I done there ;)) or Government departments then could you post on here?

Interesting. Not heard anything about something similar where I live. I spoke to my local Business Link last week too and they didn't mention anything.

guess what i use a thing called a telephone and call them to find things out rather that rely on sites run by simple web hosts without any knowledge, so stop trolling my posts.

Not trolling your posts at all, but you can't just post that I am wrong and you are right because you've had a phone call with someone. Everything needs to be in writing, not just hearsay.

I'm guessing that you're probably threatened that my hosting deals wipe the floor with the ones you offer. Everything makes sense now.

i have never said you are wrong i mearly said you seem to take the word of a comparison site run by a hosting company that if you check other forums does not have a good reputation over goverment departments which i work closly with , all it takes is a phonecall to these

And when it goes wrong what are you going to say?

"Oh, I spoke with someone called Pam who told me that to sell items on a website you need an SSL certificate. She didn't put it in writing for me"

I've just searched through the Businesslink site and there is nothing about SSL certicates on there so unless it's in writing it's not valid.

As a business you should know that.
