I think it is a very mum thing to worry about the girlfriend/boyfriend issue, it's a protective instinct as a mother

Can I just say one thing as a 'child'? Please don't put any pressure, verbal or otherwise, onto your son to get a girlfriend. You might not think you are, but you'd be surprised what he picks up. If he is straight, he will feel inadequate as a single guy and like he cannot live up to your expectations unless he is coupled up.
If he is gay, he will feel unsaid condemnation from you that can be unbelievably damaging.
If you expect him to have a girlfriend and expect that that's 'normal', anything he does other than that will make him feel 'abnormal'.
Be careful, be very careful. Even a well-meaning comment like, 'Aww, aren't there any girls you like then?' can really eat away at someone. Trust me.
Just love him as he is, sounds like you're both doing great!

My hubby always claims he was still more interested in playing football in the neighbourhood park with is mates than he was in girls when he was 16 or 17. He turned out fine.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

So your son doesn't want to s**g anything with a pulse and your concerned?
He's 16 not 19.
My son is 19 and in his second year at uni and has never had a girlfriend.
I did find some Nuts type mags in his bedroom when he was about 17, but frankly, I'm happy he doesn't have the distraction a girlfriend would give him. He has the rest of his life to be tied down and henpecked.

I wouldn't worry either. He is not alone - we just tend to hear more of the ones who are up to all sorts.
