  • Just to let you know that the following scanners have been removed
    Lanark
Glasgow St Rollox - upstairs in the clothing department
Wishaw - downstairs under the escalator
  • Hemel Hempstead extra has 3 scanners. Don't know if they work though ATM (last time I looked a month ago none of them worked). One in sweets aisle, near frozen and one in the clothing section near self scan.

A new store opened in my town in November and this store has two in-store scanners. However the scanners have never worked.

So I contacted Tesco to complain.

After an initial positive response from customer services, I got a call today from national customer services to say that they had no plans to repair the scanners as Tesco policy has changed and they are going to de-commission in-store scanners.

Maybe he was talking rubbish, but I thought I'd share this.

Just as a follow up, I can confirm that the two in store scanners in the Seaton store have now been completely removed.

They fitted them, they never worked and then they removed them.

Someone somewhere has a copy of a corporate strategy that explains the rationale behind this.

  • Dover, Kent has one in the right hand back corner of the clothing dept and there is also one in the cereal aisle.
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:
  • Hi, does anyone know the scanner situation for any of the Leeds or Bradford stores at the moment, I read earlier they had all been removed or not working but that was end of last year. I have only just found this thread so I will update as and when i am next in a Tesco!

Also there was a suggestion about using the phone barcode scanner, does anyone know if this works.

    Thanks

The Bradford Extra, Great Horton, has at least two working ones. One in clothing and one on aisle 12.

Just to points out though that the people picking dot.com can not check prices on their machines, they are not been funny they are telling the truth.

    Pretty much.

Scottish Lass explained it in post #2.

Unfortunatly it must have been too big of a job for her. Still waiting for someone brave, or crazy, enough to take over.

It seems that Scottishlass updated the lists when this thread started but no updates have been done since then. I did post with an offer to help with updates later in October 2011 and in fact pm'd EdinburghLass after that with an offer to take over the thread updates, but with no response

If no-one objects, I would still be willing to work my way through the posts and update the lists, and then start a new thread with the updated lists

Anyone have any comments/objections/in agreement ;););););)

Go for it. I did think about having a go myself but decided I wouldn't have the time.

Also wondered if doing the list as a Google spreadsheet would be easier to maintain than changing posts at the start of a thread. It would make transferring or sharing the job easier. On the downside it would require at least a basic knowledge of spreadsheets to create. (If you decided to do it that way I'd be happy to help if wanted)

An update while I'm here. All 3 scanners in Burnley extra out of order last time I checked (about a week ago)

    Hello,
I was in the burnley one yesterday and they've all been fixed! There's the one in the clothing, the one on the end of the cutlery (?) aisle and one on the sweets (?) aisle. If they're not on that aisle, they'll be an aisle or so away - I just don't remember exactly what was on the aisle :)
