My favourite thing about wedding planning was having a Gantt chart! My least favourite thing was that I was several weeks (months) behind
I was pretty pleased to get the free posh shampoo & conditioner this morning - thanks MSE email! I'm totally brainwashed though as then I started thinking 'who can I give these to for Christmas?' :rotfl:
Actually I could do with some good moneysaving. OH and I are both fully on the bandwagon and I feel like we're FINALLY in a place where debts will get paid off. We've been chipping away at them and we're also piggybanking (it was amazing to pay for all £700 of car expenses from its own pot and we also have about £500 put aside for Christmas etc) but now we have a plan! It's very dull, but it involves trying to be DF including all overdrafts by next July - which is the earliest we'd be able to look at buying a house.
Whenever I feel a bit slack, I remind myself that if we'd been this disciplined before we could have saved £30k in 2 years. Isn't that frightening? Think of all the holidays I could have gone on!And other sensible things too...
It's very quiet here. Do you think it's cos Birdie's on hols?

Definitely! I've been in a stupid pointless two hour meeting about like three non-issues - so frustrating when I have so much actual work to do
Wow that sounds like a short deadline for the debt-clearance Poddle but sometimes short and sharp (or hard and fast if you have a rudey mind like Dinah and NIM) can be easier to handle mentally? I desperately need to get some savings underway, must must must face the dreaded ebay at the weekend!!

YesI bet she will have plenty to tell us when she gets back though, she must be having an awesome time! I'm not jealous at all!
Am trying to be zen about the house, the vendors still haven't accepted or rejected our offer. They weren't keen on the houses they saw last night apparently but are having a second viewing of another house on Saturday. They have told the EA they will let us know first thing tomorrow but I'm betting it will run over the weekend now, and I know that someone else is viewing their/our house this evening too. Hopefully they don't have deep pockets!
The EA said that the wife/lady vendor was a bit nervy about it as she wasn't expecting it all to happen so quickly! Deep breaths at this point! We must have found the only vendors in the world who aren't pleased to have their house sell quickly!
ETA - Sorry Poddle, I meant to comment on the debt clearing as well! Good luck with the target, its always better to have a plan than no plan at all! I have short 'n' sharp phases where I make real progress, then slacker periods where the debt doesn't really move much, but as long as it generally goes in the right direction still I'm happy.Barclaycard [STRIKE]£7,296.35[/STRIKE] £6134.99 - MBNA [STRIKE]£4,182.88[/STRIKE] £3267.08 - O/draft [STRIKE]£569.31[/STRIKE] £413.59 - Capital One [STRIKE]£1477.55[/STRIKE] £1451.44Total debt [STRIKE]£12048.54[/STRIKE] £11267.10 6% paid0 -
Aww Shrimpy - hope they don't keep you hanging on too long! I remember when my parents sold their house and how stressful it was!
Poddle - Wishing you the best on your debt busting!
Cinny - Hope you get the job thing sorted, can't believe your own family is treating you like that!
We're still without hot water or heating. The letting agents were supposed to send the plumber round yesterday but didn't. Now we're waiting for the engineer from the boiler company to come and sort it out. Should have been here at 5pm, then 7pm, then 8pm, and they still aren't here!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -

Brrr yeah, hope you're cosy again Ruby.
Hows everyone's weekend been? Mine is very uneventful so far. Poor OH went to a stag do a fair way away. Missed his train home by seconds, obviously it was booked in advance, with a voucher - very MSE... then he had to pay £60 for another single home. He's also got his car MOT and tax due, my birthday soon, xmas imminent - and being a tight Yorkshire man this doesn't sit well with him!
I hate it when he has a bad time on nights out as he's becoming more and more of a homebird and it takes a LOT of persuading to get him to do anything. He obviously moved down here with me and doesn't really know anyone, and his work aren't sociable outside the office like mine. So any trips he makes to see his friends involve a lot of effort and travel, then they always seem to go wrong.

I made a complaint to my Dad who has spoken to them. So we'll see if they're any better this weekReady to bite heads off though if they're not :A
Hope your heating is fixed, Ruby! It's the worst having to wait for people to come out. I spent a week with a very leaky boiler waiting for my Brother to come fix it, heating engineers just have uselessness in their bloodGlad you managed to talk things through with your OH too.
Rubbish luck for your OH, Archers! Sounds like Rich, whenever he makes plans with his friends something always messes up. He's missed the last train too, so drove there the next time and got his car locked in at the car park. Hopefully it doesn't put him off too much!
I had a pretty unimpressive weekend. I wasn't great on Saturday, and OH gave himself food poisoning so I had him to look after yesterday. Never seen him so ill, poor bearLeft him at home on the sofa with his slanket, lots of drinks and all the remotes so I'm hoping he's still in one piece when I get home. Ryder's looking after him for now!

Oooh hope your heating is fixed Ruby! We had loads of trouble with our boiler in our last house but touch wood, this one seems ok. Luckily the LL and his engineer were very good though.
Hope your OH still had a good time Archers apart from the train? Its a shame when something goes wrong and spoils the whole weekend.
Hope your OH is feeling better too Cinny, hopefully it will be out of his system quickly. Also glad to hear you have spoken to your Dad and hope everyone takes it on board this weekend. I do think its harder in family or smaller businesses to keep the lines drawn, if you know what I mean. Some of the things my old boss used to say in front of me would make you  (never anything negative towards me in my case, but you certainly wouldn't want to hear it if you were of a more delicate nature)
We had a fairly quiet weekend, although we did have some good news Friday evening, our offer on the house has been acceptedI know its will be ages and ages before everything goes through and it could still fall through... but I still spent the weekend having a big clear out ready to move and may have even started packing
If nothing else it means more room for Christmas decorations right?
Ugh how did Monday come around so fast? I had such a rubbish nights sleep which is totally unlike me. Shrimpy, that's ace news! I think you're wise to be cautiously optimistic, but it's a good start
And you're right, having a clear out = less to pack + more space for Christmas. It's a win-win!
Cinny, well done for speaking to your dad, let's hope it has an effect. Shrimpy's right, it's so much more difficult to address these things in small/family businesses as it's so much more personal.
Hope your plumber came in the end, Ruby, and you had a cosy weekend
I know, how is it Monday already? OH didn't get in until late last night and was all beery and snore-y and irritating, so I grumped off to sleep on the sofa. Which was very nice actually! Luckily I'm a shorthouseLBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380
