Thursday 13 - Weds 19 Oct
OK, the week started out well with NSDs running from Tues 12th to Mon 17th.:j
Tues was a very small spend day with a couple of bits of shopping - £3.70 total!:)
However, Weds ....... a spendy day!
Flour tubs (finally gave in and bought these)
Cost - £12.49 from Ama*zon
Need / Want - need (sick of having to throw out flour)
Positives - Shopped around, these were £15.50 @ Lake*land and £15 on e*bay so did manage to save some money:) & only bought the "need" ones, the wants can wait for another day!:)
Surge protector
Cost - £7.49 from Ama*zon
Need / Want - need (essential to protect TV/Sky box for the winter)
Positives - Shopped around, similar item was £13.99 from Ar*gos (not incl p&p)
Leggings
Cost - £12.62 from E*bay (3 pairs)
Need / Want - need (for winter underneath jogging bottoms when taking dog out)
Positives - Shopped around, much cheaper than shops & got slight p&p discount from multi-buy with same purchaser
Jumpers / Trousers
Cost - £30 from catalogue (3 jumpers / 1 pair trousers)
Need / Want - need (discovered work winter jumpers won't pass as "suitable for office" for another year - relegated to "house wear" - trousers ... getting very short of work trousers!)
Positives - Searched around & found 3 soft & not too thick (get too hot & would rather wear a cardy as well) jumpers £15 each but 3 for 2 so £15 saved. Also found work trousers 1/2 price so £12.50 which is fab. Used my "rewards" and got some more whacked off the price!:)
Summary
Well, thank goodness everyday doesn't result in spending as much as I did on Weds!
However, all items were needs so that's great:D - managed to resist the wants on some things:)
Shopped around & got the best deals I could - saved a bit off everything .....:TGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Ohhhhhh lordy, it's now soooooo difficult to buy anything!:o
I've spent 2 days:eek: looking at ...... cat carriers:o - worse still, I've still not bought one.
I hate spending money on things like this (non pet owners may think I'm totally nuts by now...).
I think it's 'cos I know I'll have whatever it is for (hopefully) many years - the old one is around 17 years old;) - so want to make sure I get the best value / most suitable one.
I've found the perfect one but can't find it in a big enough size, others have weight limits on, others too expensive, too difficult to open & shut (whilst holding squirming, hissing, biting 4 legged "darling") etc.
mmmmmmm I really need to get out more!
I really must buy one by the end of the weekend so it can be delivered next week while I'm still at home.
Off for another trawl!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I bought a cat carrier recently. I am still traumatised.:rotfl: The old one was knackered which was fine for the tiny cat but threatened to fall apart when I put the big one in. But I like to buy most of my pet supplies from an independant pet shop because I like to support them, and I needed a new one in a hurry and all he had was a bright pink one. So I bought it. And now, as you say, I'm stuck with it for 17 years, a stupid bright pink pet carrier.
Last time I went to the carboot sale I saw two, if there's one near you.Debt £26k 18/10/140 -
I'm so glad it's not just me!:D
At least any non pet owners may now realise that ..... we're all loons:rotfl::rotfl:Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

hey your journey is continuing very well ... what are flour tubs? and why do you keep chucking flour out ? i say this as we have started to buy some flour now and i dont want to have to start chucking any out ( were trying to get on top of the food bill )
can i ask aslo ( cause i am nosey lol) why are you collecting your money and not putting it into an interest account?i cant quite understand why people do this ... if inflation is at 5.2% currently then keeping money in a jar means it is worth less every day ... ok try and find a bank account that has 5.2% or more in interest rates for savings is like seeing pigs flying over the cheese moon ... but atleast if your getting some sort of return for it ( say 2.5%) then you arnt losing as much ... am i just being silly now ?
anyway good luck with the journey and keep up the good work0 -
Hi Elantan, thanks for popping in.
The flour tubs are a bit of a saga .... I've had problems this year (never before) with the horrible :eek: - sorry having a slight freak at the thought of them - weevils:eek::eek:.
I've had to throw out at least 8 bags of flour in the past few weeks which have only been used once (I know you can still eat it, but I just can't:o).
I've been struggling to find something that's airtight & big enough to put a whole 1.5kg bag in and found these:
Quite a few people over on the OS board have recommended them as they're airtight etc so .... although not cheap, they will pay for themselves quite quickly if they save having to chuck once used bags of flour out!:)
Re not putting money in a savings account - honestly, I do for all my "budgeting pots" off my bank account.
The bus money is slightly different in that the buses don't give change and it costs either £1.80 or £3.70 (depending on which bus co comes - you guessed it, the cheap one only runs about twice a day:() so I really need to have change handy.
There's also only 1 cash machine in the village which a) runs out very quickly when there's bad weather & doesn't get refilled b) it's about a mile detour from the walk to the bus and c) only gives out notes.
Anyway, figured I try to put a wee bit aside to cover a couple of weeks on the bus for when the weather gets bad ..... it won't be a huge sum so not too worried about losing the interest.

ok now i need to ask about weevils ... eh ? can you tell i am learning about food here lol ... so how do they come about ? is it damp conditions?
i'm liking the look of the tubs may need to look into some for ourselves
scuttles off to look up weevils0 -
scuttles off to look up weevils
Ohhhhhh I was going to say ...... the weevils are revolting so big breath needed before you look - but think you may have discovered that by now
Apparently, the eggs are already in the flour when you buy it but damp / hot conditions make the eggs hatch :eek::eek::eek: eugh, having another slight freak at this point.:o
My new tubs have arrived this morning & have been washed out and are drying ready for the flour to go in:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
