gig started an hour earlier than advertised

i bought tickets to take me and my sister to see enter shikari in manchester on friday night. the advertised start time (even up until the night of the event) was 7pm doors. now i have been going to gigs in manchester for years and 7pm doors are the norm, even on friday nights. the only time i've seen it deviate greatly from that is on a sunday evening, because of noise curfews (where venues have residents living close by)
doors at 7, first support band at 7.30, 2nd band at 8.15, headline band at 9pm
so off we pop into manchester on friday night. we got into manchester at about 8, so decided to go and get a drink. we have our drinks and bob down to the ritz for 8.45/8.50. get there and there's nobody but doormen and touts outside. we go inside and give our tickets and see a poster saying:
doors 6pm, first band 6.30, second band 7.30, enter shikari 8.30
i did try and ring the venue on the day to see what time they'd be onstage, but the only telephone number i could find was just ringing out all day (it was the number for the ritz under it's old title)
i heard a few people inside moaning about the fact the doors opened earlier than advertised.
it turns out the gig was shifted an hour earlier because they had a clubnight starting afterwards.
none of the time changes were communicated and i feel gutted after waiting 2 years to see them to have missed 20 minutes of their set, especially given that they're one of my sister's favourite bands

whilst i think moving it early is not great and they should have told you
cant understand why you did not get there early i always get there an hour before cause usually concerts get busy
if you had got there early you would have been fine perhaps you could speak to the ticket people as see if they can give you a refundReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
Although it started earlier than you thought you still didn't get there until well after it was originally supposed to have started so can't really complain that much in my opinion. Why were you so late gettting there?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

that happened to me a couple of weeks back - i went to see the Ozzy Osbourne movie which was only one for 2 nights and this was the second night. The tickets from Ticketmaster said a 9pm start and we drove 25 miles to see it as it was only on in a few cinemas. We got there at 8.45 and it had already started at 8pm...we were also gutted.
i emailed Ticketmaster the next day - they investigated and agreed that a refund was in order and they are also sending me a copy of the DVD. I think at least you should ask for a refund....0 -

It must be an age thing, I would always be at an event for the beginning.:rotfl:

Depends whether you are sitting or standing.
If i'm sitting in allocated seating i'll turn up after the support unless its someone i want to see.
Standing - well i've often turned up 10 hours before the main act are due on:oThe trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
I've had that before, last week actually. Went to see Wheatus, said the support band City Stereo were on at 8:30pm, doors opened at 7pm. But they rearranged the support bands, City Stereo were on at 7:30pm! Luckily I didn't miss them, my brother was planning on getting to the gig about 8pm as he was finishing work late, but managed to get out earlier. Luckily he did! They were one of the reasons we went!
I remember going to All Time Low gig and the queue was so big at Brixton o2 that by the time we got in, we missed the first support act! Tip going to a sold out gig at Brixton, get there 45 minutes before doors open or more if you want to see the first support band! lol0 -

Me too.
But then I'm tight, I want to get the full value from my usually very expensive ticket!!0 -

the tickets were £17.50.
the problem with getting to this venue early are the extortionate drinks prices (upwards of £4 a pint) and the fact they have no air conditioning. i have never been in a hotter gig venue than that place. i had a t-shirt an cargo shorts on and i still had sweat pouring off mehelpful tips

Sorry, but I curse people like that when you are trying to watch and you have to get up so they can get to their seat.0
