I was taking my son to see The Feeling at the HMV Institute in Birmingham last Friday, by chance I found out on the morning that they had a club night starting at 10.30pm so I assumed there would be an earlier curfew time for the gig to end. I tried calling the Institute many times but no one answered the phone until later on Friday afternoon and I found out that they'd be on stage at 8.30pm with a 10pm curfew. We made it to the venue with about 10 minutes to spare - had to wait for my husband to get home from work to look after our younger child, then we had to get a train into the city.
The venue would obviously know about the earlier curfew so is it too much trouble for them or the ticket agency - Sandbag in this case - to send an email with the approximate times? Or at least put it on the venue website. I know that when I've gone to see one particular band who like to play a 3 hour set, I've received emails from the various venues with the time schedule so that people are aware that the show is starting earlier than the usual 9pm which regular concert goers are used to.0 -
Most gigs I go to are at the O2 academy, and that place is as bad as any for timings.
They usually publish stage times on Facebook during the day, and any adjustments to door times are usually displayed on the website, but it annoys me that Fri/Sat tickets usually say doors are at 7, because it's usually at 6 because of their club nights, and they obviously know this.
I went to see Bring Me the Horizon a few months back with my brother, and doors were at 6:30, first band at 7 (who we actually wanted to see) but the queues were so long and badly managed that we didn't get in until 7:45 (when queues were still all the way around the block)
And then, when BMTH took the stage, their drummer had broken his wrist that day, so they had the drummer from the support band, who had managed to learn about 4 songs. It was a real pain as their set was really stop/start, poor quality, the sound control was awful, but we didn't get a partial refund as, technically, they'd played :mad:0 -
that's a ridiculously early time for a headline band to be on! Although, was it a 14+/all ages show, (I imagine for enter shikari it was) - these always seem to finish earlier and I usually factor this in.
Its always a laugh at rock city at the 14+ shows because all the 'mums and dads' stand at the back near the kitchen looking like they are about to die of a unique combination of stress and boredom.
but yeah, they probably should have told you but you'll never get a refund as they usually say 'lineup subject to change' and under that they could just as easily have put Enter Shikari on first and you would have missed them entirely, or a couple of support bands could have dropped out and then the whole thing could have moved earlier. It don't agree with the practice, but unfortunately I think you're out of pocket.0 -
i'm not expecting to get a refund as such, it's just more of a rant at the fact they didn't communicate this time change. i expect more of ticketmasterhelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0
