G24 Contractual Parking Ticket **HELP**

Options
Please forgive me!
I rec'd a Parking advice notice from G24 on Tues. stating I had breached the max duration of stay permitted at Central Six Retail Park Warwick Rd Coventry i.e. 40 mins over the permitted 180 mins. Today while paying bills on the internet I payed the sum demanded! i.e. £70, £50 if payed within 28 days of notice.
I THEN VISITED THE MSE SITE. I'M NORMALLY ON THE BALL! BUT NOT THIS TIME! Any advice? I wasn't driving the car by the way although I am the registered owner. I payed by visa debit and rang the bank immediately to cancel the payment, but they said they couldn't and that I would have to speak to the visa/debit dept tomorrow. They added that they didn't think I would be able to cancel as I made the payment via the G24 web site.

Sorry, too late, you paid. Unless you can get them to do a chargeback/reversal you have learned an expensive lesson, hope you are lucky.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the payment cannot be reversed then your only option is to complian at the Retail Park about them using a Parking Firm which has a terrible reputation on internet forums, to pick on genuine customers. Show copies of the receipts and state you and your family will never shop there again if they do not refund this scam fake PCN which the registered keeper was hoodwinked into paying due to it copying the appearance of a real PCN.

Was the driver with children or with anyone with a medical condition, did they overstay or what?

Although back to front I will be fighting and intend to go to the local press if a reversal is not possible! But I must admit that I was taken in by the charge notice and the photographs. What really rubbed it in, was that while paying the charge the G24 web site almost conditions you to think you should be enjoying the experience by displaying and stating that that your "shopping basket contains 1 contractual Parking Charge Notice..". ..as if I was on Amazon!???
The charge is equal to 2 years Road Tax! It was a monday and the car park had very few cars parked.

    Does it? That's an insult.

Involve the local press and defo complain in writing to the Managers of the Retail shops if you can produce receipts, hit them where it hurts & make sure the newspaper reports that these are NOT fines (as you found out later).

"Amazon" how professional? You must really push the chargeback, they will say no but insist that you were conned into thinking that the "ticket" you received was official. When the first person says no ask to speak to the next in line, if they still say no, ask them to put their decision in writing as you will be going to the FOS. This can sometimes shift them into paying as it will cost them if the FOS take it up!
  • I had one through from these jokers for parking in Central Six as well last Sunday. It said we had been there for 101 mins and should have only stayed for 60 mins. However Parkopedia says you can park on a Sunday for free for 2 hours! Total crooks. I will be ignoring their demands for payment. I have, however, reported this to Watchdog. It may be worth you doing the same. The more people who contact Watchdog about this company the more likely they are to feature them. I seriously doubt they will give you a refund but let's give them as much publicity as we can, it's the least we can do.

Thanks to the person over on PePiPoo who posted this excellent blog about all the stupid and meaningless threats you might receive from G24

  • I received a parking charge notice last week. ie 40 mins over permitted 180.

I naively paid the reduced amount ie £50 rather than £70 to G24 via there website. PLEASE FORGIVE ME!!!

Having then read all the info regarding private parking charges,, I contacted my bank to reverse the payment. They advised they couldn't!

I contacted g24 who said they wanted any appeal in writing, which I did, stating I wasn't the driver of the vehicle! (I can actually confirm this if req,d) ie I was at work!

They have basically written back stating my appeal has been unsuccessful at this time and further evidence is req'd if I wish them to consider my appeal further.

They have stated that although I wasn't the driver of the car I have failed to state who was!

They have then quoted a legal court case dated 2008 Oldham court, Combined Parking solutions v Mr Stephen Thomas in the case where Mr Thomas claimed not to be the driver , but did not state who was.
The ruling was that on the balance of probability he was the driver and ordered the charge to be paid plus additional court costs.

    They have given me 2 options;

1.Pay the outstanding parking charge if I was the driver. (Although I already have)

    2. Inform them who the driver was so responsibility for the charge can be passed to them.

They have also stated that if I provided additional/further evidence relating to my appeal with in the next 7 days they will place the outstanding charge on hold for a further 14 days for consideration.
If the charge is paid, (which it is), and I wish to provide further evidence relating to my appeal then I am to forward this.

As I have paid do you think I am wasting my time pursuing an appeal? ie They are basically stating that my grounds for appeal are void as per the court case. Also they seem to think they can demand who was driving the car?

Any advice would be most appreciated.

They keep dragging up that old court case. To clarify, the defendant denied that he was the driver, even though he had boasted on a forum that he was in fact the driver. The judge did not take too kindly to that behavior and found against him. For some strange reason G24 don't mention the other court cases where parking companies have lost. Some of these losses were because the identity of the driver could not be proven. They cannot "demand" anything. They are not the police or the council, but a tin-pot private company with no special powers.

I am afraid you are wasting your time with another "appeal" . Just count it as an expensive lesson. What you could do in amends is tell everyone you know about the true nature of private parking scams and tell them to ignore all the stupid letters they will receive if they fall foul of private parking companies.
