Thanks again Chorlie. have PM you but I've failed so far to find the motability discount at either garage I've tried. Any further clues I can use. I'd been dreaming of that car but perhaps its not to be or I'll have to find more cash than I'd hoped.

I've sent you a couple of PM's the last one has a link to a Nissan site.

Thanks Chorlie still no progress but not given up. However I've done some further calculations as to this buy or motability questions as realised if I buy I'm likely to keep the car 6 years plus so worked it all out again with the depriciation of car levelling off etc and realised by buying I'm likely to save most in the final 3 years and that looks to be in excess of £3000 over the motability option. Yes I know with motability I'd have 2 new cars in that period but a new car every 3 years isn't a huge worry to me where basic reliability etc is. This includes servicing at main dealer etc so looks for me that buying is best option. Shall try to go for test drive next weekend and hope the car is right for me or I'll have to start all over again and goodness only knows what else I'd like to try.

Ok, I'll throw another spanner into calculations; have you considered getting it via Motability and then buying it after the 3yrs and running for another 3yr. You'll get your first 3yrs insurance, servicing, breakdown cover and you should get the first MOT included, you could also try to time it that it's had a new set of tyres etc. just before the 3yrs is up; this way when you buy it you know nothing should need doing to it and you'll know the full history of the car.

The down side would be the loss of your Insurance NCD....you'll have to get the calculator out and see how the figures workout doing it this way...

You'll have 3yrs interest on the money you would of used to buy it out right (you could put it into a 3yr fixed rate bond, so it's there with interest when you come to need it at the end of the Motability period).

You certainly know how o confuse my brain!! Have however looked at insurance and there is a potential £200 difference if I failed to keep my NCB in just the first year but ....???? confused big time.

Money would go in an ISA etc and will possibly be doing for some of it anyway as if they do a 0% I may as well take them up on offer as that cash is better in my account than theres!

Just be careful of the total savings limit if claiming any means tested limit.

Unfortunately the money will not be enough to effect anything. The only means tested benefit I get is working tax credit - disability element and strangely they do not wish to know about ISA capital. I ask them each year just to be sure although it does say not to count any isa capital. Anyway as you will guess with ISA cash limits its not going to be a huge amount.

Car has been orderer. My final conclusions was little difference in cost to me over a prolonged period - 5 - 6 years and wouldnt have a worry of losing car if DWP suddenly decided to re-assess my indefinate award. Final decision factor was if I had a motability car a friend would not be able to drive it on their insurance if I was taken ill without warning. And that tends to be an issue for me unfortunately. Surprised that mtability do not allow that if taken ill as it seems to be lke doctors appointments you need warning in advance you will need it. The security and peace of mind in owning car and no fear re DWP and my DLA award and knowing friends I trust can drive my car in an emergency won me over.
So nice new shiny car is coming soon.
  • People whom say Motorbility are expensive are taking utter and complete sh***.
a 14k car no deposit, insurance for 3 years included all bulbs, all servicing, all repairs, all oil top ups, as many tyres as needed free of charge for under £200 a month
A ford fiesta on a 3 year ford options lease scheme is over £200 a month. Then you have tyres and insurance on top. Motobility replace anything thats wear and tear such as bulbs, If this is a renault then say hello to £90 to replace a front light bulb as the whole bumper comes off. Most people would pay £60 a month for fully comp insurance so deduct this off £200 and your getting a new car every 3 years for £140 a month
