I would aregue that if part of your business is to provide bespoke business cards than your business depends on you believing that everyone judjes a person/business by their business card. This doesn't mean that this is correct. It just means that you have to believe in your product and their value.

    To give examples;
If I get a workman in who does a brilliant job but when he gives me his business card it's a low quality home print I wouldn't thing "his card is shabby so I won't use him again" I would think " he was good I'll keep his card"
If I'm in a shop and looking at bespoke jewlery that I realy like and descide to take a card so that I can look at their website I wouldn't turn my nose up at them just because the card wasn't embossed and professionally deigned.
My wallet is full of Vista and similare business cheap cards for services and products I'm interested in and all I care about is that they have the correct contact details on them.
I would add that for companies in businesses such as banking, law etc. You would definately expect the card to be "all that and a bag of chips" but for th majority of small companies what would draw me in is the service and quality on offer, not a little peice of card with a name on it.

Business cards are just an addition to my core business, I make very little money off business cards but are sold as part of the package. If the client uses me for business cards great if not it doesn't matter. The profit margin I make isn't worth trying to sell them and usually I gave them for free with large jobs. I do see you point and if I was printer then I would totally agree, as it is i'm not nor do I provide "bespoke cards" i just don't use templates.

If I get a workman in who does a brilliant job but when he gives me his business card it's a low quality home print I wouldn't thing "his card is shabby so I won't use him again" I would think " he was good I'll keep his card" The business card has no use here other than as a contact tool, he has done a brilliant job already.

Had you never of met this guy before though and he knocks on your door looking all shabby with a crappy looking card offering painting and decorating services you would see him as a cheap painter and decorator more than likely!! You may or may not use him

If I'm in a shop and looking at bespoke jewlery that I realy like and descide to take a card so that I can look at their website I wouldn't turn my nose up at them just because the card wasn't embossed and professionally deigned. Again the business card is nothing more than a contact card you have already seen the wares you are already in the shop. Had you of been given a cheapy business card on the street or picked up from someone its probably not where you bother to go if you were looking for a 10k diamond ring.

With your final statement your confusing quality with flashy designs, they are not the same thing and are infact totally different. Business cards are not expensive, even if you go down the road of embossing and hot foiling. They have to suit your business but only a part of your businesses image. The way you present yourself, signage and other literature all form part of that.

If you want to portray that you offer QUALITY then a home printed business card on tesco's white A4 paper cut out won't cut it.

A business card is like your shop front and if people don't say they don't judge a book by its cover they are talking BS. EVERYONE makes judgements good or bad on first impressions, yes they can change their mind but sometimes for some people that initial reaction is enough to deter them.

Emit question. If you're afraid of the quality, order a sample pack! They are absolutely fab!

vista is where they take your money. Cheap is not always best, remember you are representative your business on that card. Try saxoprint.co.uk Ive used them for lots of print and always come out good. I dont use cards from them as they are not as professional as I need them, but have used them when I started business and do the job. I use now solopress.com and get matt laminated, give such a pro finish.
    Kind Regards

One I can personally recommend to you is John Barfoot at CopyZone (Bishop’s Stortford)

He may not be cheapest, but is certainly one of the best you’ll find, and not drastically expensive (£130ish inc. VAT for 1000 on split order.)

I don’t have the number on me now, but try to speak to one of his team, who will pinpoint you in the right direction!

They would have to be very VERY special cards for that for price.

  • Gotprint, £38 laminated, manually checked, your design....2500 cards! Mind you, that charge is made up of £11 shipping! Still cheaper than the others mentioned. I believe the card is 350g

    Seriously give them a try
  • My tip would be print24.com. They offer a pretty good customer service, even if something goes wrong. In the printing industry there are many factors which could go wrong, so having a solid customer service is crucial!

    Good luck!

However, is this not about supporting local business at the same time?

He has various expenses, plus bearing in mind that this was a split order. He still had a design team to pay, especially last time round as we were rebranding with new logos!

    Btw, Bex is amazing!

I'm all for supporting local business but that doesn't mean I will pay excessively more for something of equal quality just because it is local. Obviously if the price difference was £10/£20/£30 you would probably pay that much extra just for the convenience of being able to go down and get them there and then, but paying £130 compared with £60 is a big difference when I can get them within 48 hours.

Its hard to judge because your printer might be using a higher grade card and heavier weight, (could be 500gsm) who knows so that could be where the cost is. For paper cards though I wouldn't pay that sort of money, I only paid a little more for the same amount in plastic cards full colour, a few months ago for a client.
