Never had a problem with vistaprint, good value, does what it says and always a plus point that they use recycled card etc. but I think even they do at least 250 in their free offer. To be fair, if you have never used them or cards, for the sake of a supplement of a couple of quid, upgrade to the premium ones, they are glossy, no text on the back, hundreds of designs and even with postage will cost you about a tenner for the lot.
I never pay for anything these days due to the spam mails. I get free mugs, magnets, banners, t shirts, postcards, brochures, hats etc etc. all with our logo, uploaded and designed by me and I am no wizz. People think I spend a fortune on promo stuff, the staff think I am likely to put vistaprint out of business as I only ever pay postage! I have an Inn on the edge of a loch in Scotland, and I also have our website through them.
I think if you haven't used cards before, then dont get sucked in to all the "extras" that some will sell - have a go at making your own online, you dont have to order them... just see what you think.

ETA just went on and it is offering me 500 for free if I want, or 250, (might be an account thing lol) glossy upgrade (recommend) is 3.99 and 3 week post is 3.08, 7 day was 8.07 I think. They always send faster and love to send you a mail saying "your order was shipped early!!!!" I always go with 3 week and get it invariably in 2.

yes i always use vistaprint and oner thing i get each year are calendar fridge magnets and xmas cards to send to my clients (i run a hosting business) as i think its nice to thank clients for their business over the year.
postcards are also a good tool to place in envelopes when you post anything out ( your get 100 free just postage)

Why are you spamming this UK forum with links to Vista's AU and NZ websites?

(methinks this is Vista using is a spamming programme but they need to get their geography right...)

Vistaprint cards have one location in my life - the bin... if you are not willing to invest in something as simple and cheap as a business card then what else are you not investing in. They simply don't come across as professional if you want me to part with money first impressions count.

Sorry but I did lol at that... as a business owner, I look at what i need, and who can fulfill that need, at the best possible price. Of course quality is important, but I am pretty sure that most people do not use someone based only on their business card quality! I think its more likely, particularly at present, that they choose based on price... Expensive does not mean best.

If you want to build your business, as the op does, having never used cards before, spend wisely on the things you need... alternatively, spend a fortune on things you can get at a better price/are conned into by comments like these, or because you feel the need.

I replied to an A4 printed black and white sheet posted on the co-op notice board, twice... for 2 different things, in the last month - one a mobile beautician setting up and there is no one mobile locally, the other a scrap dealer, as I had some old stainless stuff to get rid of, and because I am a buisness I would be charged for, we came to an agreement.

No business cards in sight, regardless of quality, as both are just starting out... but fantastic deals /relationships formed. Clearly adverts GD would have missed /ignored, as they didnt have expensive shiny cards.. and imho lost out, or paid more for a service that may or may not have been better, due to card quality!

Business cards/ quality of such dont maketh the business successful... the people who own /run it successfully do.

As always the world in not black or white...
the type of cards you need depend on what you do, what people expect from you, and what you need the cards for.

If I was for example an architect/designer giving out cards to prospective clients, I'd probably give vistaprint a miss... but they are fit for purpose for what I need.

I would definitely avoid the ones with the 'designed by' on them. Also they are a funny size, not to usual UK business card size.
I use the glossy ones, double sided and I find them OK, not outstanding, but work for me.

I love Moo cards but when they seemed so expensive compared with Vistaprint. In the end, I went with Vistaprint again, created my own design in Photoshop and then had it printed on the higher cost paper so it seemed more professional. I gave it out at a networking event last week and people commented on the design and said how gorgeous it was and where had it come from. It was actually wrapping paper that I'd scanned and then manipulated bits of in PHotoshop!

Mind you, haven't had any work from giving out the cards yet !
  • I notice that the Advertising Standards Authority has added Vistaprint to their list of traders who have continued to make claims on their digital sites that do not comply with ASA Codes, despite repeated requests for changes from ASA Compliance teams.
Personally I love MOO and rue the day I let V have my email address

Vistaprint is very sneaky and you have to be very careful when you buy, a slip of the mouse and you end up paying much more, being tied up to a monthly payment etc.
As long as you are very careful when you click you can get very cheap cards and the quality is OK (if you don't need anything too fancy).

If I needed something more sleek I would go with MOO too, but for basic cards VP are OK.
