Its comps like this one https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2994536 and this one https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3091656 that i have problems with. I enter weeklies on a Sunday, so miss the first one completely as its only open for one full day, the other is bumped every week with the new answer, but only people who go into the weekly thread will see it. How can i ask for them to be moved when there is no overall end date, but i dont think its fair that so many people are missing out on some comps, if i had more time, i would post them each week myself, but unfortunately although i work at home, most days im busy and spend the evenings catching up.
Its a difficult one, and im not sure there is an answer to please everyone.
  • many of those ones are linked in the 3rd post in the daily thread....best i can suggest is spend 5mins checking in there every day before you start your main catch up? that way you wont miss them, but also dont have to go through the weekly thread every day to find any. i suspect the reason so many are posted as ongoing (or there are still a bunch not posted but as direct links in daily thread as ive not got round to posting them as ongoing and it seems no one else is inclined to) is because so many people are, like you, too busy to commit to finding the comp and reposting it every single week.

there is no solution to please everyone, but i add them to dailies as its more likely people will check in there every day than they will in weeklies and i have been given lists of direct links to fb and twitter pages that run these enter on one day only comps regularly. if they were not posted at all everyone would miss out (unless they found and entered via twitter and fb on their own), this way everyone on here has the choice of either checking for them or accepting that they will miss out :S

if they went on main it would be with a guessed end date and would still be either posted once and only found again via sticky links or bumped with new details every time. there are some not linked that are being posted every week as new....and thats what that op chooses to do. there are many many, many more that we just dont get told about on here at all. in my opinion posting them once and linking them thus giving the choice of bothering to look for them or not is better than not posting them at all *shrugs*.

Its difficult isnt it! Some good ideas there - think i will carry on posting them if i see them, but if i dont get chance, then unless someone else does then it will be missed, i dont use the dailies or the weeklies very often though, i keep my own list now because there were too many i didnt want, or were not relevant to me, but the ones that can only be entered on a certain day each week (honeybuns, bear nibbles etc) i often miss, because they are a completely different type of comp and i dont always have time to look for them, so thats something im used to now.

Just to add my two-penneth,hope it's ok.I understand that the membership is varied on here & we all comp in our own way.Personally the regulars area is not a place I use & I would bet that the vast majority of users do not either. If this type of comp is posted with the final end date as opposed to a weekly one that majority would more than likely miss it,be it due lack of bookmarking or style of comping.

I'm confused as to the rules as I've said on the C4 TV comp & will accept my foolishness but surely this way is better for the majority ?
  • i think we are all confused as to the rules weeowens tbh :) my point here was if they are posted every week then they cannot be linked in the weekly thread. that is unfair on those of us who do choose to take the little bit of time out from main board and utilise those threads as if they are an ongoing thread, or are just posted elsewhere reposting them on main is duping and can lead to us entering twice. it is not fair to ask gilla to change a link to the same competition every week, anymore than it would be to ask me to change a link every day. the option is there for people to check those threads to make sure they are not missing out on anything, its down to an individuals choice to ignore evrywhere except main. since the monthlies are supposed to be being posted as new threads on main every time we have lost a number of them.

those of you who never went near regs wont miss them because you missed them before, and only got to enter them once or twice when they were on main. there have also been a number of threads that should have been posted as new each time but where the op has either posted with a final end date and updated the thread if necessary, posted with final end date and left it alone so its never bumped, or edited the end date in the op each month, which means its neither bumped nor a new thread to alert newly posted compers to any change. those threads in the past would have been linked in monthlies so if we chose to we had the option to find them. if we chose not to then we missed out, but it was down to our own choice by our own comping style.

it was decided monthlies would be done away with, there was more agreement form majority over that, its a shame we now miss a lot of them of here, but thats the consequence of what was decided. there was a lot more of a mixed thoughts over weeklies, the original was lets try it with monthlies then reassess about weeklies later iirc, but that got ignored *shrugs*. which is why i suggest lets just leave it to the op and not tell people they did it wrong if they do an ongoing thread and link in weeklies or if they do it as a new thread each week. for the majority that miss it, they have the choice to have a quick skim in the weekly thread for new links they may have missed to add to their own lists or bookmarks....the option is there, no one can force them to do so but they do not HAVE to miss out...except whereby they are posted as ongoing or the date is changed a few days before the end date each time and the thread is not linked in any of the stickies, then there is no choice, if you dont know that thread is going to be updated or date changed you wont have it bookmarked anywhere else.

    Hi

comps with an overall end date are posted on the main board, as are monthly comps even if they are ongoing (new thread for each month)

daily draws with overall end date - seem to work best in one thread with overall end date and DAILY in title plus a link in the Dailies thread (a new thread each day would probably cause more problems than one ongoing thread ie probably have dupes as search takes a while to show up threads, or if it doesn't get posted until say mid morning some people may miss out)

monthly draws - always posted as a new thread for each month

weekly draws (such as this thread) - more of a grey area as to what people prefer, some are posted new each week and some are posted with overall end date, and I'm not sure we'll ever get people to agree on which is the best way so there can be one rule all I will say is that if it is posted as one thread with overall end date then it should have WEEKLY in the title and a link in the weekly sticky on the regs board, if it is posted as a new thread each week it doesn't need a link in the sticky as people will catch it each week anyway

basically after all the big discussions things seem to have settled down with only weekly comps still being confusing and maybe the way to go is say it's up to the individual OP who actually finds the comp as long as they make the title clear :)

I've posted the above a couple of times when this has come up about weekly comps, if anyone does think a thread is in the wrong board etc then pm and point it out to a BG please :)
