I'm considering suggesting to my mum that we batch cook some meals for my nan. She likes cottage pie, mac n cheese, stew etc and usually buys ready meals but wants something more fresh tasting. She's looking at having meals delivered weekly but they cost £3 each and I know it would only take us a few hours once every few weeks to do and we'd do them to her old recipes. Does anyone do anything like this for a relative?
I do a lot of batch cooking for my parents. I buy a few packs of the takeaway tubs and some tin foil dishes with the lids. I make soup, cauliflower cheese, ratatouille, red cabbage, mashed pots, roast pots, bolognaise sauces, chilli, mince and veg, chicken casserole, steak and kidney, sausage casserole etc I also have cooked a whole joint in gravy and sliced it up and divided it up into portions and frozen it. (even adding stuffing balls) I have made 12 muffin tin yorkshire puddings and frozen them. From these with a supplement of steam in the bag veg and easy cook pasta, a bag of aunt bessies dumplings, and a pastry sheet cut into the size of the foil dish and frozen separately there are lots of time saving, easy and nutritional meals. Also its easy to make a crumble and freeze it in individual portions. It can then be served with an individual custard carton.
It works out much cheaper than ready meals and you know whats gone into them.0
