Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 8th October 2011. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all - a very early start for me as have neck pain (almost gone - yipee) and bad migraine (not showing signs of shifting!). Did the ice / heat thing on my neck and seems to have worked, given in and taken nasty fizzing tablets for my head. Time will tell.

Weather forecast says it will be chilly today so as I'm up I've lit the fire (no heating on here yet!) and when the boys are up and about I hope to start on the pile of washing and the inevitable ironing that comes with having children. If this headache goes I'd like to continue sanding down the dresser that I managed to get for only £30 - it needs a lot of TLC and some paint, but then it will be lovely. :D Need to do a Costco / Makro shop as OH needs his coffee beans - hopefully I can pick up some bargains there too. Must get some things down from the loft as we're seeing BIL next week so I'll start handing out Christmas presents I've bought. :rudolf: Saves postage. Dinner tonight is ooops'd pork chops with oops bramley apples and redcurrants made into a fruit pie for pudding I think. Plus point of the migraine is being up since about 2am has meant I got bread out of the freezer for breakfast this AM.

Hugs to all in need :)
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning ESM and all,

ESM - you sound SO organised, you put me to shame :o I have got to get my act together with chistmas :D

I was up about 5, fed up with waking up so early, but when i,m awake thats it can,t go back off

Will have abusy 'doing day' today, kids away so will be able to sort their rooms properly:cool:

Earlier this week I took the plunge and cancelled Sky TV - I cannot justify spending £40 per month to watch TV - the kids were surprisingly ok about it, I expected a few tantrums, but they just shrugged and said 'fine':)

Anyway, off to get coffee, have a lovely day all x

    Morning all...

I barely slept a wink last night, it was horrid. I am not going to take any more of the stupid tablets if I can help it, they made me feel awful :(

But in good news, OH is home today!! his flight is landing in....approximately 6 minutes :) he's just got hand luggage so hopefully quickly through the airport and back here in an hour, he may be back by 8.40 ish. So excited!

OS wise, I'll make my Christmas cake this weekend and do some baking for people at work. Going to try a new recipe for apple cake I think. No cleaning to do really after an absolute mammoth session last Saturday, and keeping up to date through the week including giving the place a quick vacuum last night. I can hear the breadmaker churning away working on a loaf for our breakfast, so I'll welcome OH home with the smell of freshly baked bread and a pot of coffee :)

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Molly, I hope you are having a lie in.
I went to the theatre last night with my DD's we went to see Penis Puppetry, it was very funny, but most of it looked painful.
Hubby & I were up to watch the GP qually at 5 this morning. He's now having a snooze, I'm about to hang 2 loads of washing on the line. Both my DD's are having an expensive week. DD1 needs to replace a bedroom door that one of the new foster children trashed, DD2 had her tumble dryer break down for the 5th time in 4 months & her microwave catchfire, I bought her a new microwave with the money I had in my penny jar.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Get well soon esmf and any other poorlies.
I too now have a rotten cold so I need to wrap up really warm as I am spending the morning stood on a cold and windy netball court watching DD2 in her first tournament of the weekend (tournament 2 is tomorrow!)

It is cold and windy here this morning but my washing dried beautifully yesterday so I will try it again today.

Tonight my friend is cooking a birthday meal for me, OH and a few friends so I am really looking forward to that.
All the children (well, teenagers) are gathering at our house so they are out of the way!

Hugs to all that need them.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

  • Morning all, before and after!

Had a good day yesterday. M&D came for their dinner (belated birthday for both of them) and seemed to appreciate my hard work in the kitchen and enjoyed opening presents :) It was an NSD too and that's always good. Had enough Nectar points to order an Amazon voucher so am now planning what treats I can get (the new Simon's Cat book is on my radar!)

Planning to take it fairly easy today as yesterday was fun but hard work. I'll need to be running the DW to get through all the dishes we created and have a bit of a tidy up but other than that there's not too much work to be accomplished. Oh - I need to portion up and freeze leftovers but that's it.

Will try and check back later :)

Good morning everyone. I'm another one who had a bad night's sleep. I had a tickle in my throat that kept making me cough, and the sniffles. I don't feel as if it's a cold coming but we fired the central heating up for the first time last night, and I think I've reacted to it. I hope it clears up - don't fancy being cold all winter!

I am going to do a bit of exciting shopping this morning - to buy slippers. I want to get prepared before the really cold weather descends on us. It's decidedly autumn here today; the sun is shining but I don't think it will be that warm. To think that last Saturday and Sunday it was beautiful and summery; I can't believe the change in a few short days.

It's a bit dreich here this morning - the sort of dampness that gets into your bones. Washing will have to on the airer - trying to not use TD to save leccy!

Got to pay CC bill, do a bit of shopping, dejunk kitchen, go to work this afternoon, bake after tea, menu plan and change our bed.... :)

Hugs and kisses - especially to the poorlies - hope you feel better soon! See you all later.

    Morning all

    ((((hugs))))) to all the poorlies!
JackieO - well done to Henry!

I was up early to watch the rugby - Well done Wales :j:j:j

Last night's date went well :) we had a quick drink in a pub before the cinema, then watched a horror film called Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (of the 3 films I've seen this week it was the worst! but it was still a good watch, just not that scary). Then we went for a walk around the marina. I got home just before midnight. He is very lovely, however he is a bit too keen for just a 2nd date (not in that way! ;)), he kept saying how lovely I was and how glad he was that we met etc. I don't take compliments well :rotfl:. Also I don't really want anything too serious before I go on holidays in 2 weeks time as I don't want to have to be thinking of someone back home whilst I'm off having fun for 4 weeks. But we shall see, I'm not going to throw away a good thing...

Todays plans - my brother is visiting so we are going out for family lunch with parents and both grandmothers, will be nice to catch up. Then tonight I'm going to my colleagues wedding do :) really looking forward to that. My lovely boss has offered to drive too as she is off the alcohol at the moment so free taxi!

OS wise - need to tidy away the floordrobe that appears to have formed in my room. DW will go on. WM may go on, but might leave it til tomorrow.

    Have a great day all

    Hello everyone
Hope you don't mind me joining you today. I often read but don't often have the time to post.
Sorry but lazing in bed at the mo. Have to get up 6ish in the week so having a treat.
Glad to hear its drying weather as a mountain of washing awaits me and I too am trying to save on the energy bills. Could have done with the heating on last night but chose a blanket and a couple of logs on the burner instead.
Speaking of log burners, does anyone know an easy way to clean the rather blackened glass doors without investing in an expensive cleaning product?
    Have a lovely day everyone.
