You have my sympathies, as those must have been horrific experiences. However, not all dogs are alike - and one should be careful not to tarnish all with the same brush, as it serves no-one to do so.

I am afraid I will - I don't want any more horrible experiences, thanks.

That's your right, but it undermines the likelihood of anyone listening if you're so inflexibly fixed in your view. Thankfully I have the same view of those who are so inflexible with regards to sex and race too.

Clearly you are intent on having the last word, so doubtless you'll have something else to add ;)

Surely, if you think a dog is about to attack your child you're not going to put your hands anywhere near the animal which, I would suggest, is the reason someone tried to kick your dog away.

Have you seen the damage your "babies" can do? I have and, whilst I am an animal lover, I can completely understand a grandparent's desire to protect their grandchild.

You need to train your dogs not to run up to people and keep an eye on them while they are off the lead.

You said that the children should stick to their own area - that is saying your dog has more right to roam than children.

No, what I said was IF the child is afraid of dogs is should go in a segregated park area - this is for the safety of the child I did not say all children should be in that area.

Saying how would you like it if I kicked your child IS a threat!

absolute rubbish - its a question, its not a threat, he was asked how he would feel if his child was kicked. I did not say, stand back, brace yourself im gonna kick your kid for crying out loud.

Please stop sensationalising something which isn't valid.

And you've said yourself you were facing the other way before he kicked it so how could you possibly see how close the dog got?

Yes indeed I have, but I ALSO KEEP saying the other half saw how close as she was facing him before I turned round.

Please read whats written, specifically what's written, not what you want to read.

Not all dogs are alike, but strangers don't know if a pair of unknown dogs will bite first and ask questions later or roll over to have their tummys tickled. Sensible people with small children when closely approached by a pair of strange dogs tell them to clear off in no uncertain terms.

Yes I have seen it and I am well aware of what dogs are capable of - indeed the staffy that went for our dog when they were both on a lead the other day underlines what SOME dogs and SOME breads can do.

The guy left the kid on the floor and kicked the dog - if he was concerned he should have picked the kid up too - its all well and good to say I should have them on the lead, but even then it wouldn't stop any of the other 50+dogs doing the same.

The guy was an accident waiting to happen, fortunately it didn't happen with our dogs, but that didn't stop him kicking a dog.

That's true Errata. Equally if someone stops me to ask for directions, I can't be sure they're not going to drag me off an kill me. Should I kick them in the knackers first, just in case?

How many young kids do you know attack dogs??

    Unfortunately, lots do.

Statistically, humans are a far greater threat to dogs than vice versa, and adult humans are a far bigger threat to children than almost anything else except bacteria.)

OP, work on recall. I don't believe any dog is completely 100% perfect but if you can get to 95+ then you'll be able to relax a bit more. It sounds like granddad massively overreacted but people do that all the time which is why we need to protect our dogs from them by not letting them approach unsupervised.

I don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.

And yes there is an underlying resentment of self-righteousness about dog owners who think their 'kids' are more important than other humans, especially when it comes to proper [not substitute] children.

What a mean spirited little comment. It says a lot more about you than it does dog owners.

OP isn't saying his dogs/kids are more important than "proper [not substitute] children". He is objecting to them being kicked for nothing more than running towards somebody.

OP, don't take any notice of all the holier than thou posters on your thread. They see a thread like this and their pack mentality takes over. Once a couple of them have flamed an OP, they all jump in and spill their bile. It's not personal.;)
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.
