Ebay woes

Hey folks,

I wanted to get some advice before I raised a claim on ebay for an item I've not received.

I ordered an item on ebay on the 10th of September from America, Florida to be precise. The seller said they sent it First Class USPS mail international on the 13th. I've still not received the item. I know it can take a while but lately all the orders I've had from America have arrived within 2 weeks.

I emailed the seller who has replied :

"Have you physically gone down to your local post office and have them look Many times it is sitting down there"

That is all well and good but my local pick up office won't even look at you if you don't have the "while you were out slip". I've replied but not response so far. I'm a bit concerned as it's a present for my fiance for his birthday which is in under 2 weeks.

Is it too soon to raise a claim? Oh, and I've never raised one before!

Thanks :)

It does seem a little soon to open a case yet. You've been lucky before, but mail from US does take some time to arrive usually.

You should phone your sorting office, they ought to be able to tell you over the phone whether there's actually a parcel for you, it's just that you'd need ID to actually get it.

Have you a plan B for the present?

Unfortunatley not. It's quite an expensive item I ordered so I don't have the money for a back up :( I'll try and phone the sorting office in the morning. I have to say my local postie is fantastic, I work nights and he knows this so he will leave me a note and hide my post in my shed for me. I've never had any issues with post being kept at the sorting office so I would be very shocked if that's the case.
  • fingers crossed for you that it'll come soon

It is a bit too soon to claim, I agree. I ordered something off Ebay from Hong Kong and it took about 40 days to get here.

If there's duty to pay it could be at customs

Post varies but HK/China takes a lot longer than post to the US. It's been nearly a month - if you leave it too much longer you will be out of time to raise any dispute. I don't think it's unreasonable to start something now, actually.

I'd expect a US parcel to arrive in 10 days. I received one today that I ordered on monday. Personally from the 10th the OP has waited long enough I'd be opening a case

How much is it exactly - I suspect hermum might be right and it is delayed while duty and handling is being calculated.

Just out of interest - and obviously this is the buyer's responsibility, not the seller's - how would one go about finding out whether this is the case?

I don't have any idea Crowqueen. The only times I have actually had to pay duty and handling I have had a card through the door first, on all occasions it was just late enough to start me worrying- but not late enough that I had considered opening a claim.
