Biggest problem with willow is it's so wet - but if you make sure it's properly dried out it will burn fine. Won't last long - probably shorter lived than some softwoods - but not a problem at all.

Cordwood prices have risen sharply this year, so firewood isn't likely to get cheaper any time soon. Also of course fuel prices have gone up loads, and there's a fair bit of fuel used between felling the tree and the logs arriving on your driveway. Probably the only thing not going up is the firewood guys income!

Cheers SaveMoney..... I will get pics up of the coal store this eve, which matches the log store!

Mine is mainly from pallets or oak decking that I got from work and the slates were free. I think it cost about a tenner for screws, new batton for the back etc :)

I made mine from some old pallets and a sheet of corrugated clear plastic from Wickes. All held together with decking screws.

It sits on some concrete blocks to keep the bottom pallet from rotting.

  • Love the pics - anyone got any idea how to get a 23cm eco fan into a 15cm hole above stove or how to configure it to blow when not placed above the stove?

Had our Clearview on last night - burning beautifully, Im still amazed how I can just turn it up and down like a gas fire :) Dogs started off on hearth rug and moved backwards during the evening to the hallway! I think I may have to bite the bullet and get an eco fan too as we were down to tee shirts by the end of the evening. Last year we had -17 degrees in this area and still we were toasty warm with most of the downstairs rads off.

Wood stacked up since last year and even some 2 years ago, so hopefully ok for some months worth and fortunately we have nearly an acre of land surrounded of ash trees :) Cut off the tops and next year you have the same amount to cut off again :)
  • Yet but I think with the fans 23cm is the smallest - am thinking of trying to reconfigure one to lodge it behind the stove, with the fan popping over the top, and some type of heat conveyor to the foot of the fan.

Been splitting ash & oak I got April last year, 2 small wood storage bins full, working to fill the big un, my friendly joiner technicians give me a full bulk bag of soft wood a week, hoping to have at least three full bulk bags stacked one top of each other, before Christmas?

Stove been in use a few times over the last few weeks, working a treat :j

I was looking at my ecofan, bottom part of al/al extrusion can be cut and re-welded, even though base has been anodized, problen is, fan blades would require to be cut too, hence I think, making the fan useless at pushing heat about?

I would be looking for a discreet, safe wire path, and install a computer fan, big emphasis on safe routing of power cable and, fan situ!!

You can buy TEG units themselves off ebay or online electrical gubbins shops for very little money. I don't know how effective a computer fan would be in comparison - the ecofan is designed to move a large volume of air at low velocity, as opposed to something like a hair dryer which does the opposite. Not sure where a pc fan would sit along this scale - but it wouldn't cost a fortune to do a bit of experimenting and find out!
