Grey Queen -I used to buy skimmed milk - until I read about diluting milk. I've been buying blue top since and diluting it down 2:1 and that is what gets used for everything (except the milk in my coffee - so I keep a bit undiluted for that).

I've now found a source of supply of decent quality "blue top" milk - and its actually pretty "creamy" still despite being diluted.
:) Thanks hun; one question, tho, and sorry to be a bit thick as haven't had my (Tesco Value) porridge with (whoopsied) fruit yet.....would that be 2 parts full fat milk to 1 part water?

yep - I've had my porridge (with donated fruit):D - so brain is in gear...:rotfl:

Yep....it is 2 parts FULL fat milk to 1 part water.

I'd hate to try diluting down skim (or even semi skim) milk_pale_ - 'twould be very "thin" ....

I buy blue full fat milk, then divide between 2 bottles and top up with water - hey presto semi- skimmed!!!!!:j

The resultant mix you have will not have the same nutrients as semi skimmed as when it comes from the dairy it has not just been watered down but filtered in such a way that the vitamins and calcium are retained while the fat is reduced.

It's something that people need to be aware of and certainly isn't to be recommended for children. :)

    Definitely moneysaving though. ;)

You could always buy one 'good' brand of something and then save the box/bottles and decant the cheaper value stuff into it - do that with the value baby shampoo and bath stuff - was great buying that but the baby bath no longer available online now. Have a huge stock of the shampoo though!!

Earlier this week I used my Superdrug points to pay for a £2.03 Vaseline lip balm stick: used 200 points and paid 3p. Then wooh! Got 50 points back because there is a promotion on Vaseline lip balm sticks :)

Not to mention that the Superdrug points were earned through previous points promotions where I bought essentials many of which were 2 for 1 including shampoo which I then diluted down at home :)

I confess to being one of those people who always work out the price per 100 sheets for loo rolls ... aiming to keep it to at or under 15p per 100 sheets for reasonable quality 2 ply. Come to think of it, I ought to factor in the grams per m2 to account for quality: no point using more sheets of too thin loo paper. BOGOFS for reasonable quality loo rolls at the Co-op and less frequently Waitrose tend to be pretty good.

    Actually I don't feel embarrassed!

They have already factored the cost of providing these into the price you pay for the room so i hardly think it matters to them whether you use them in the room or taken them away - you have paid for them regardless
  • I can't believe people are arguing still over the hotel toiletries. Thats the embarassing bit of the thread lol

    Other things I do

when card shops have 7-for-a £1 or similar offers on I buy a selection of birthday cards. I also keep, in stock, one or two 'in sympathy' cards because I don't go into town regularly (where I can get them at a good price - 59p or even 29p from Card Factory) and chances are I would need one at short notice/unexpectedly and the supermarket sells hallmark and the local shops have expensive cards. And 'in sympathy' cards need to be sent off promptly, IMO.
