    Other things I do

when card shops have 7-for-a £1 or similar offers on I buy a selection of birthday cards. I also keep, in stock, one or two 'in sympathy' cards because I don't go into town regularly (where I can get them at a good price - 59p or even 29p from Card Factory) and chances are I would need one at short notice/unexpectedly and the supermarket sells hallmark and the local shops have expensive cards. And 'in sympathy' cards need to be sent off promptly, IMO.

So do I Valli. Have started now getting nice blank ones that can double up for anything so always somehing on hand for anyone. Nice tranquile scenes or some plain white flowers also d for sympathy cards - have had some nice ones half price with Funkypigeon too. No point in paying crazy prices.

I save drier fluff and candle stubs to make firelighters :o

I'm making some at the moment actually... cos' the Rayburn is back on and so the heat to melt the candles is free. I've saved all the bits of candles we've burnt down and this year even some birthday candles, and I bung them in a metal jug that belonged to my gran, I put it on the heat, and when it's all melted, I pour it over the fluff, and all my sewing trimmings in an egg box. When they are dry they burn like you would NOT believe!

This is completely awesome. We're doing this today because of your post. We have a little bin in the shed beside the dryer that we put the fluff in and only empty it....actually, I don't think we've ever emptied it, it's not full yet, lol, so we'll be out scraping together candles and making lighters tonight. Well done.

I do all the usual things, but we flush the loo and have baths because we're not on a meter so it doesn't affect our finances. We freecycle for everything we need and have never had a new item like a bed, tv or washing machine, it's all second hand, we made paper bricks from all this weeks Sun papers after we got the Lego :) and I knock on peoples doors and ask them if I can have the papers from their recycling bins (DH wont come with me when I do this!).

We use value nappy bags for dog poo bags, but try to get unscented as a pocket full of little bags also helps when you wander across a blackberry bramble or crap apple in the park.

I buy value crisps and biscuits for my sons school lunch but re-bag/re-pot them in to plastic pots so no one has to know.

We also stuff toilet rolls with paper and I pour used kitchen fat over them as firelighters.

If I park in the multi-story car-park it costs me £2.50 for all day parking, which is far cheaper than parking anywhere else in the city. Then when I leave I look for someone else just coming in and offer them my ticket, obviously not for free. I usually ask for them to go halves with me, if it's only just after mid-day. Today a guy gave me £1.50, I told him I didn't have any change and he said to just keep it. So both parties make a saving.

Lots make you put the reg number in now though - a friedn got a fine for re-using a ticket someone gave her at a local hospital - just a warning - yours might be fine though.

We do this all the time but don't ask for anything in return for our ticket. It gives me a "feel good" factor, a bit like giving blood for nothing.

    Trust me, it's a nice feeling :D
