  • Thanks gallygirl and tahlullah!!:D

I am, indeed, thrilled at getting the job....it will put me back on track with the mortgage and hopefully will lead to bigger and better things career wise in the future!;)

Paid another £20 to the mortgage today....I still hope to add a little more by the end of the month, but also need to clear the credit card which took a bit of a hit this week with my clothes shopping expeditions!:o All set now though and totally relieved...I absolutely hate shopping!!! :(

I am having a 'me' day today.... ds is walking the hound for me and the house is fine so my plan is to spend the day watching the rubbish I have recorded on tv and snoozing whenever the mood takes me..... tomorrow I will have a long puppy walk, sort the house, re-do the budgets, catch up on everyone's threads and clear out my wardrobe to make room for my new clothing..... sounds like a great way to finish my week!! :D

The past couple of weeks have been crazy and expensive!!
One of my friends has had a relationship breakdown so I have acquired a new dog - she is getting on a bit at 11.5 years old and has arthritis bless her :( but she is absolutely lovely and when my friend asked me if I could take her, I knew that I had to....she has settled in well and gets on great with my hound but it has all come as a major surprise!

Said friend had a bit of a meltdown last week so has been staying with me for a few days which has not been cheap as I have spent quite a bit of cash on food and drink plus additional petrol money to ferry friend around to get things sorted...my budget has just gone to poo if I'm honest :o However, it's money well spent as I think that the worst is over now and the support I have given is (in their words) the thing that has got them through it.....emotionally, it has been incredibly draining for me plus I am exhausted through the lack of sleep but I hope that life will get back to normal over the next couple of days and intend to spend the weekend doing nothing! :D

My washing machine decided to die on me two days ago too :mad:so I have had to buy a new one which has gone onto the cc - I will take it from my offset savings but not until my bill is due! On the plus side...this one has a quick wash which is actually quick; my dead one's 'quick wash' took over an hour and a half!!! So, long term, it should save me a fortune in electricity ;) See, there's always a silver lining!!:rotfl:

Garden wise, things are going well....I have finally planted out all my shrubs and the seeds have all started sprouting so I am really pleased with the progress....I will be putting in my runner and French beans and my courgettes this weekend and also need to earth up my potatoes....

Mortgage wise, I applied for a refund from the electricity supplier and have paid that to the mortgage - another £85 there and will be able to do some TT's later in the month :D

Will catch up with diaries tomorrow....hope everyone is well! :D

A close friend with a relationship breakdown is the sort of thing that ought to take precedence over a mere budget. Glad you were able to help. Well done. The budget will still be there waiting for you to pick it back up again!

  • Thanks Lois :D will deffo get myself back on track this weekend both financially and physically - but for today, lazy is the only thing I am doing!! :rotfl:

I am doing a food inventory and meal plan tomorrow and I should discover how much I have left of the grocery budget once dh gives me figures tonight....don't think it will be much but I will manage with what we have! Getting my big freezer defrosted is a matter of urgency now...there appears to be more ice than food and I really can't keep buying things cheap and putting it off!! :o (why do they always have half price offers on meat when I need to defrost my freezer???)

I have about two weeks worth of dog food in there at the moment so I will use up all the human food in that time regardless of how bizarre the meals end up so that I can defrost and then re-fill - somebody please kick me if I haven't completed the freezer defrost by 20th April :D

dd has a new job now so will start to pay me rent again which will help....now that she has cash, I will just tell her that her and bf will have to either eat what I am doing or sort themselves out! She can be incredibly fussy at times and I end up spending much more on groceries just to ensure that she has something she really likes...now that she is earning again, she can have what she wants but at her expense if necessary!!;)

In all fairness, my son has always done that.....he does eat most things but buys his own if it isn't something he fancies - I don't feel guilty about it, there is always food in the house and there is nothing stopping him making his own from stocks if he wants...problem is he is terminally lazy when it comes to cooking so tends to either eat the same stuff or buys 'convenience' rubbish instead!!

Responsibility for cooking/food prep will be changing slightly from next week anyway when I start the new job....dh & I won't be getting home before 6.30pm and I have no intention of doing everything when I get in as ds is here all day at the moment while he is unemployed and dd's new job means that she will be home by 5-5.30pm at the latest....we never used to eat before 7pm but I have started doing dinner early when dd is here with her bf as they are both starving by six!! That's not been an issue while I have been out of work but it's not going to happen now!!;) Perhaps it will improve the cooking skills of the sprogs...miracles can happen!!:rotfl:

Just realised that this is turning into an epic ramble....see, that's what happens when I am having a bone-idle day...brain wanders all over the place.....only plus point is that it proves that I have one - regardless of how inefficient it may be!! :D:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Just come over from my thread as you said your life was a bit chaotic. Yep, lots going on! But all so positive! New job, supporting friends, taking in new pets, getting family organised and prepared for new regime... All good.

Look at it for what it is - a storm in a teacup. Real confusion and chaos will kick in next week with the new job, the bit you cannot control until you have been there long enough to understand what is happening around you.

Your life at the moment, all within your control! Sit back and enjoy the ride and good luck next week! I hope it turns out to be everything you want it to be.

Despite the chaos, I never lose sight of how lucky I am to have what I have....I think that I have just got used to a pretty peaceful existence over the last few months and then, as usual, everything happens at once!! ;)

Since writing on Friday, the lawnmower has died and we have had to replace that and dd is once again jobless!! :(

Bless her, she was a mess when she came home yesterday...totally distraught.....she has only been in the job for two weeks (and only worked 3 days a week) and had been completely blasted out by the boss for not knowing how to do everything - including stuff she has never been shown!!! Then she was told that she would have to do it all on her own next weekend!!!
I managed to keep cool (I am ridiculously protective over my children and wanted to go and beat the b*stard to death!) told her to make a decision on what she wanted to do and I would support her with it.... upshot is, she went back, collected her wages, gave back her work clothes and told him that she will no longer work for him.....I'm proud of her for having the courage to walk away - life is far too short to be unhappy and to be treated with such disrespect!

Had a lovely day in the garden yesterday once I had got over the shock of having the lawnmower die and having send dh out to replace it!! I had a good clean up out there as it has been a bit of a mess where we have been moving plants etc over the past couple of weeks....managed to get a trip to the recycling centre in and got rid of lots of carp that way, grass was cut, runner and French beans and courgettes sown, potatoes topped up and then a few beverages consumed....but only stuff I already have in the house!!;)

I did the inventory yesterday too and have meal planned to the end of the month....I'm absolutely determined to stick to it this time - don't have too much choice if I am honest!! I am really fed up with having cupboards full of stuff that I bought ages ago and still look at every time I open the door!:o Admittedly, since solstice, I have done incredibly well in thinning it but there still seems to be that mountain....

Today, I will have a pretty peaceful day....I have taken out dinner from the freezer so other than preparing the few green beans and carrots that need to go with it, it's all sorted - the weather is a bit poo here today so don't think I will spend much time outside; sounds like a pj and dvd day calls!! Woohoo!!! :D
