what to do with smoked mackerel

  • Thank you for the ideas, I started eating smoked mackerel and usually that means having it with salad but had thought about pat! or trying to make sandwiches so this has expanded the range I can do...

  • Peppered mackerel is lovely with mustard mash. I use wholegrain mustard. Serve with beetroot, gherkins and a dollop of creme fraiche.

    Or couscous, bulgar wheat or quinoa cook as directed on the packet add loads of lime / orange rind, some juice, some chili, garlic and ginger, chopped peppers, some frozen sweetcorn and peas. Last but not least a dollop of creme fresh.

    hi all

    Found a packet of smoked mackeral in the back of the fridge that is a few day over its date....so i need to use it up today if possible...

    any suggestions for recipes ? I often have it with salad for lunch but have no salad in and as its snowy outside i don't want to go out and so fancy a warm recipe for it?

    any ideas?

    Make a Kedgeree with it if you want a hot dish, otherwise use it to make an easy pate.

    Or brush with butter/oil and stick under a hot grill for a couple of minute and top with a poached egg.

    Not knowing what else you have in stock, have you googled smoked mackeral it brings up loads of recipes. See what you have and cook there's loads of pasta dishes.
    Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

    kedgeree sounds fab..... i love rice dishes but have never made this before

    but the kids prefer pasta so will cook this for me and a pasta bake for the kids...

    thanks you - i was lacking in inspiration and stuck in my rut of only thinking of the things i "normally" cook.
