Second mackerel pate for you and mackerel fishcakes for the kids - mix with plenty of mash, some sweetcorn then dip in beaten egg and breadcrumbs. That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0

DO NOT make curry with it! Believe it or not, my husband did and it was vile! (I would never have considered it)0

I've bought some smoked mackerel fillets which I want to eat with a salad.
It says to grill them, no where on the packaging does it say I can just open and eat them. Can I or do I have to cook them?
I thought smoking them was a method of cooking them.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

I sometimes eat it as it is, but I prefer it hot/warm and so grilled - it seems to release the oils and, in my opinion, improves the textureLove and compassion to all x0

They can be eaten cold - they have been cooked by the smoking process and shouldn't need further cooking. They're delicious flaked and tossed in a baby leaf salad - no need for any extra dressing as they are quite oily and good for you!
