Which Anti spam program?

I have been trying an old version of Mailwasher and to be honest it all seems like a lot of hard work
I still have to check through around 250 spams daily.
Although I blacklist most of them There seem to be 200+ more the next day.
I used to bounce all that could be bounced but that doesnt seem to make any difference
I think I am right in assuming that most spammers never use a genuine email address and often disguise their address with some other innocent poor sod's email address. This of course means all I am doing is bouncing spam out of my mailbox and into someone elses. Those that are non-existant in turn get bounced right back to me.
As most people must be, I'm absolutely sick of it
You hear talk of laws being created and spammers becoming outlawed but on the face of it it looks like nothing is really being done about it
Well back to Mailwasher which so many have recommended to me
For me its really not working
Yesterday I decided to register it only to find I had only paid for the classic version. Apart froom some small advantages I see very little difference.
I wrote to them and asked why I didnt get the proper full version and was told I need to pay another 37 dollars to have it
Well being cheesed off that I paid and only got what seems like half the program I feel reluctant to pay out another 20 quid or so.
Has anyone got the full pro version and would you say its worth it?
Or are there any other programs out there that are better and dont cost an arm and a leg.
Please exchange your experiences here so we can all debate and discover which one is the best
I really am desperate to find a solution. Not just for me but also for many friends and colleagues who have also had enough of it all

Mailwasher wont stop spam. Anti spam doesnt mean it can stop spam from happening. It only lets you filter out the spam on the server and delete it before it gets onto your PC.
You're right, bouncing spam is a complete waste of time. It doesnt go back to the sender.
Once your address has been harvested unfortunately the only real solution is to get a new email address. And be careful who you give it to.0 -
I agree with CWoodham. I think you will need to dump your existing email address and get two new ones, one to use for trusted contacts and one for filling in forms on websites etc.0

Changing your email address would certainly work, although I think eventually you would be back to square one with the one that you use for online form filling.
In the event that you can't change your email address or prefer to keep it, you might give Spamihilator a try. I use it and my spam mails have gone from 100+ a day to about 5 a week. It takes time to teach it what is spam (although I would say it filters out 90% of them from day 1), but for me at least it has been worth it.
In addition to the basic program there are several plug-ins you can download from the website which increase its efficiency. I use all of them!!

Anyone else tried Spamihilator? Good and bad reports please.
A couple of months ago I started to get spam into my main e-mail address - yes I know now that I should not have used this e-mail address for ANYTHING, but there you go. I am now getting numerous spam every day, and it is increasing.
So in the absence of being able to block or change my main e-mail address, I am looking for something which will stop this junk.
I also have Norton on my machine - would one affect the other?0 -
My ISP (Demon) has a pretty effective spam filter. I used to get dozens of spam emails every day, now it's down to maybe one or two if that. Check to see if your ISP is offering anything like that. Demon don't charge extra for the service, but then theirs is not the cheapest service anyway.£2 coin savers club: £1.49

Its not so easy to change email address. Mine is linked to my domain name so its anything@mydomainname.co.uk
I'm going to ask my domain host haisoft if they can do something about itIWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0 -
If you have your own domain, do you have access to your domain control panel?
If so it's worth investigating if there are any antispam features on the mail management side - a common facility if you have access to cpanel which offers SpamAssassin, blackhole filtering or bounceback and some offer BoxTrapper (which is a white list manager, people have to respond to a verification mail before they can send you mail).

Yes, I use Spamihilator and it works well for me. The occasional spam e-mail still gets through. However, the disadvantage of Spamihilator is that all messages are still downloaded to your computer, although the spam messages are quarantined and do not get through to your mail program unless you tell Spamihilator that they are not spam. So you do still have to check the quarantine area for any mails that may have been identified incorrectly, but I suppose no spam filter will be 100% accurate and you have to do that with other programs anyway.Charlie0 -
I forgot to mention that Spamihilator is FREE!!
