What f/b to leave?

Finally had a refund for a missing item (£26), but only after no comms from seller despite 2 polite emails, a 2 week wait, an INR opened in PP, and finally today the seller admits to not sending due to 'a close family bereavement'.

Now maybe I'm cynical, but this is the 2nd time this week I've been given that excuse from a seller after a 2 week wait, and this seller has a dispatch star today of 3.8, so I'm clearly not the first to experience problems.

The seller though has played the 'I'm so sad' card and begged me not to leave a neg due to the bereavement.

What f/b would you leave?

I think they deserve a negative for failing to complete the transaction without communicating, but since I'm cowardly I'd leave a neutral because I don't like to be the one to deliver the final thrust into the dying corpse of their selling career.

  • I'm leaning towards a neg too - just so cross they did not bother to contact me in 2 weeks. Only the note in the resolution centre console with this emotional blackmail!

Have a look at their account & see whether they've bid, or left FB during their very sad time.
  • Bingo - yes a bid and win for a jacket on the 29th! Grief affects us all in so many ways doesn't it?!!! ;)

It certainly does, maybe it was to wear to the funeral.
  • I haven't sold many things on eBay, but the only time I did get a buyer refuse to pay was because 'they'd found out they had cancer'. Seems to me there's a lot of 'sick' people who use eBay . . . .
  • Of course you should leave a neg

I'd leave a neg for that reason - if they can't honour their commitments, they shouldn't be selling. It's my money - I don't want to waste it.

I had a similar issue with someone before Christmas and yes I did leave a neutral (with everyone else we finished her off), but a neg would make sure they didn't do it to someone else. I've got more loyalty towards buyers affected by this situation than towards sellers who can't keep their side of the bargain and insist on listing at what must be a terribly stressful time for them otherwise. Fine, they're unhappy, but they shouldn't be playing with other people's money during the unhappiness.

Sellers have control over what they list and when they list it. While some things can be very sudden, and I don't want to judge how people respond, but when they are holding someone's money...it's no longer just their problem, particularly if two weeks have elapsed since the purchase.

And funerals are usually held within a week of the death. It might be wiser for her to buy the jacket offline.
