Mobile phone water damage

Hi
my daughter spilt a glass of water on her blackberry bold mobile phone and now it wont turn on or charge up
she currently pays £30 amonth on a two year contract that started in January (the phone was free)
As this was a free phone with the £30 monthly fee can I claim on my Halifax home insurance for a new phone?...I think I can guess what the answer will be and that I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a second hand one myself (with daughters contributions of course)

even though it was free the handset still has a value so you need to weigh up if the insurance excess is worth paying compared to cost of replacement handset. It should be covered if you have accidental damage included?
first off though try putting it in a glass of rice for a few days to absorb moisture and then in airing cupboard,i rescued my sisters iphone this way after it went down the toilet.0 -
£180 from argos, dont claim on insurance not worth itDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Hi,
it's maybe good that it won't turn on, as seemingly that is when the damage done after contact with water.
As already said, try the drying out process, remove the battery first, soak up any excess water, and go with the rice and airing cupboard, don't be in too big a hurry to switch on, I'd give it a day or two at least.
Good luck.0 -
This happened to me too! I had a blank screen and you could see the water inside but before you buy a new one try this. DON"T keep trying to turn it on, remove the battery, leave it open (if that's applicable) and just leave it alone to dry out for a week. Yes a week. That's how long mine took. Don't fiddle with it, tempting as it is!
Mine is now back to normal...... and I am more careful with it!
Hope this helps.0 -
if you do try the dry out and it fails, you can send in a water damaged phone for cashback, will help offset the replacement - note, you dont need to replace the exact same phone with the same phone, any BB has the same standard functionality.0

Try just taking the phone back to the phone shop first and say it doesn't work.
I once had an N95 that got absolutely drenched few years back when I was videoing the floods. I was fairly new into the contract and they just repaired it without question.
On the flip side had another N95 year or so later and with a month or 2 left of contract I took that one to get repaired and they claimed it was water damaged so not repairable yet this one hadn't been anywhere near water! :rotfl:0
