Probably for describing you in plain words how the rest of us feel about you.

I'm going to presume that you are a young, illogical male for the purposes of the following. Oh, actually reading the OP you are a young male so how good am I so far?

So, God forbid you meet someone as equally low in the gene pool and manage to produce an offspring, what exactly should we say to you should your offspring be killed by a drunk driver. The law doesn't differentiate between 1 pint and 10 pints, over the limit is drunk driving, end of.

I'd hazard a guess that if your child were killed by a moron driving with no headlights on whilst on a road trip for some munchies, you'd want the book thrown at that driver. I have the misfortune of being related to someone convicted of drink driving. He by the grace of god was caught before he harmed anyone. I'd have been grateful had he won a Darwin Award but if he'd taken the life of someone because he fancied a wee drive whilst intoxicated I'd have killed him myself.

So you are one of those individuals then who seems to think that UK laws need not apply in Northern Ireland. Then do us all a favour and move 'down South' and see if their drink driving laws are any more lenient that those of the UK.

I was reading the previous posts and agree with a lot of what has been said but some of the content of this post has annoyed me. The fact that you would want to kill a relative or think it would have been better if he killed himself whilst drink driving is deeply disturbing. The reference to the OP moving “down south” if he didn’t like NI laws was IMPO unnecessary. I don’t really get the down south reference at all. Many people find many of the laws in NI excessive and a legacy of the troubles where an erosion of our civil rights and an excessively large nanny state was a necessity. Those days are in the past. But to say I/ or anyone else should “move down south” if we’re not happy is deeply flawed. Luckily I live in a democracy.

Given that alcohol is what got the OP into this situation in the first place, it seems a bit strange that he's advising people to have a beer:

It's only a "conviction" if one believes in / adheres to legal codes made east of Ireland.

According to here and here, the alcohol levels are the same in the UK & ROI. So it'd be a "conviction" in both jurisdictions. So no matter where you'd be prosecuted, you should just take your punishment like a man rather than whining like a baby.

And why would my actions disturb you? My relative is known for liking his drink and has on a number of occassions been successfully stopped from driving whilst intoxicated but when he continues to see no sense then gets caught I'm horrified that he could have killed someone. Drink drivers deserve no sympathy so should he have totalled himself in the process then that's one less drink driver on the road who could have killed an innocent person.

As for the "down South" reference, the OPs comment stating "It's only a "conviction" if one believes in / adheres to legal codes made east of Ireland" led me to believe that maybe he thought the laws of our neighbouring country "South of Northern Ireland - or Down South for ease of typing" would be more lenient or to his liking. I don't recall saying you should move but if you feel like the laws here are too strict for your liking then you're more than welcome to move - don't let me stop you. I think it's pathetic to state that even though you have been convicted of something as serious as drink driving, your political beliefs mean that you shouldn't have to accept the punishment.

Personally my opinion is that laws are there to be followed and if you can't stick the heat then get out of the kitchen. Maybe this is a Nanny state due to the "Troubles" but given that the there's talk of bringing the drink drive limit down to zero, does that mean it will have become too much of a nanny state for you?

You don't have a clue, do you, probably too thick!!

I can offer advice on what Porsche to hire though and, this is from practical experience.

    Boxster is a bit tame.

911 Carerra4S, fantastic machine, difficult to keep under 30mph.

CaymanS. Again difficult to keep under 30mph, and actually prefer driving the CaymanS compared to the 911, however, down sized to an SLK, which in turn, gets me from A>B, same as any ther car actuallly!

But if you crave to be a wannabe, have a look here http://www.carpages.co.uk/porsche/

Ach if you like the cayman you are missing something with the boxster view... the whole point of these cars is the agility and not the brute acceleration. If you just want the biggest kick in the back then you don't buy a porsche unless you have really big bucks.

Alcohol impairs your judgement. It looks looks it is still impairing yours. Someone with 10 points, a ban and an "I've done nothing wrong" attitude is not the kind of person I want near me in a high performance car.

I'm afraid the highlighted bit would be on much shakier legal grounds than your conviction...
