Wow! Thanks everybody for your help, who would have though there were so many different ways of doing it!
I am going to try many of the ideas - I'm not keen on mushrooms or olives (and neither are the rest of the family) so I'll give those a miss, though.
Re: the whole/chopped tomato thing - it is because of the stalk-y bit that I use chopped ones, plus they break down easily as DH would reject any actual lumps of tomato! I don't use value ones, just Tescos own. I hadn't thought of using passata - I use that in my sauce for meatballs, so I don't know why that didn't occur to me!
Thanks again.Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

One thing I forgot to mention, sometimes to add a little zing, I add a little ground cinnamon to my pasta sauce...its rather nice and really adds to the overall flavour.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650
